Oxidised but still quite interesting. Should have been uncorked 5-10 years ago

Oxidative now but works pretty well if you are into this. Two bottles with very different evolution.

Needs at least an hour—ideally 2–of air. Still young. Next bottle probably in 5 years…

Amazing mouthfeel — stood up to bacon-wrapped scallops beautifully.

High-end Rhone Dinner at a friend's house. (Hollywood): Deep gold color. Gasoline, tropical fruit and spice on the nose. Full body, quite spicy on the palate. Long finish.

Golden hue, honey caramel, almost like a dessert wine. Just a little too rich and prob to be drank up

Honeysuckle, green fennel, tangerine oil, crushed rocks, finish of lemon butter cream. This had a nice wave of tension on the finish but was a little closed and not as profound as older vintages when I’ve had them at 3-4 years. Still a really nice wine. 93/100 for now.

Decanted for ~2+hrs before serving. Wow! It had been 6-yrs since I last had this... but boy, this is now showing much better than I recalled it to be (that slight oxidative note seemed to have further diminished)! Golden-coloured, that typically represents wines with some age... this was anything but; So fresh, despite the colour, it certainly did not taste like a wine of (its colour/age). Nice aromas of tropical fruits, nectarines, peaches that kept coming forth out of the glass. Great expansive mouthfeel & texture - waxy, almost unctous but so fresh at the same time with notes of honey, apricots, more peaches. This is now a wine of great depth, multi-layered with a long fresh finish! Very very delicious, and should continue keeping well (or even improve) for a good time to come...!

I finally got around to opening a bottle and I was not disappointed.

Jeff Leve's notes are perfect. This wine is still in the same exact same place it was two years ago. Just wonderful. I have more bottles left and I may score the next one higher. In the meantime I have established a baseline. Just a beautiful wine.

Fish and chips and veg for dinner by Britt tonight.

Smoking a Perdomo after wine is finished.

Tasted alongside Chapoutier Chante-Alouette 2019. Interesting comparison of White Rhônes grapes (marsanne vs roussanne). I prefered The Hermitage but the Beaucastel is also a beautiful wine. Richer fruits with mineral notes. The hermitage had more acidity to keep it more balanced.

96 vvPunkte

Beau vin!

Flamboyantly good. With a decidedly small sample size (not even a dozen bottles) the spritely 2012 was inspiring in a field of terrific whites. Luxurious, nearly salacious, richness. A nose worth of Helen of Troy’s perfume collection. And a textural umami that wasn’t outclassed by 2004 or 1994 Chave Blanc. Truly gorgeous bottle. Wish I had more. 1105 pts.

Glorious big oily mouthfeel but already showing tertiary caramel notes. Low acidity, some nice vanilla tannin from the barrel. There are rich honeyed almond, ripe yellow peach and ripe canteloup melon here. Long, quite complex. Drink now unless you love the tertiary notes, this is not built for the long term.

A very interesting wine.
While it's clearly well past its drinking window, it was still very interesting to taste. Intense savory notes combining citrus zest, herbs and spices.
The hue showed some evolution as expected, but appropriate for its age.
The palate is where the fatigue shows up with the acidity dominating and little textural balance to be found.
It must have been a beautiful wine 10 - 20 years ago.

Full bodied and concentrated with caramel, oak and ripe fruits. Apricots and honey. Ok acidity, but in fact this wine was too old already. This must be an off bottle, because 2 days before I drank the basic white from Beaucastel, also from 2009 and that wine was beautiful, completely fresh and not a bit too old.

One of the great white wines of the world (and compared to the best burgundy chardonnays this is a steal) - this Roussanne is rich, powerful and thick. Flavors of pineapple, almond and candied citrus linger long after the first sip.
White
Single piece cork, no sign of seepage.
Excellent fill level, no sieving necessary.
Decanted and tasted over 3h.
Toffee and viscous texture. Some freshness despite the nose suggesting a dead wine. Agree with previous TN, is on mature plateau, and it could be stable for a long time before the first signs of decline are consistent.

To be enjoyed from 2025 to 2032 IMHO, tasting well now.

Almost a bday dinner (Chez Bruce, London): Definitely a wine we prefer youngish and it felt on point at this age. We would suggest one decants as we did Leve a glass or too for the end of the dinner and the wine for sure developed more. We often do serve this with cheese as this is beyond the usual dry whites.
Intense and dense with a proper old vine feel, layered and with an intensity of flavour, concentrated and focussed. Soft lemon, candied lemon almost, rich, floral and tropical finish with a soft waxy edge. An impressive 94-95 wine.

At a private dinner, Brisbane. This wine opened with a deep golden colour yet a fresh opulent nose of peach, apricot, pineapple, cinnamon butter and orange zest. The palate is truly opulent with layers of flavour balanced by toast with honey and butter and a clear mineral grip that persists beautifully. while this is no shrinking violet of a wine it is a fine expression of mature old vines Roussanne that stands up against and compliments rich dishes.

Boston Wine + Poker, Salem, Mass.: Tasted blind. For an oxidized wine, this still held some interest -- there was an attractive spiciness -- but obviously far from what it should have been.

Deep yellow - the colour and apple nose initially worries but after 30mins the wine opened wonderfully. Honey and spiced pear flavours and much better with food than expected. Deeper and spicier than most vintages but also somewhat heavier as a result. Paired best with braised pork cheek. Drink for 2030. 94pts

A hard wine for me evaluate as I seldom drink 100% Roussanne. The minerality was excellent, but there was a sweetness that did not marry with any particular fruit flavors, citrus or tropical. It was almost like a touch of artificial sweetener was added and the citrus and tropical fruits were just naturally very dry or fading. The color did not indicate too much age, and there were no oxidative notes. Not an unpleasant wine and the 15 second finish was more enjoyable than the initial attack.

Interesting to see this next it's older brother the '06 (and a bit sad as we've got a bunch of '06 in our cellar but fewer '07s). This was drinking very well. Bright and fresh and honey and flowers and almost a bit on the young side. Missing any of the oxidative qualities these wines often get with age.

Really strange to see the color difference that just one year makes. I would have expected this wine to be in a pretty good spot but it came across as a bit more oxidized and not quite as well traveled as the '07 (which was light and seemed to be 10 years younger rather than just one year). Poured a darker almost caramely color. Still interesting, but not quite as compelling as the '07.

Popped and poured. Aromas are waxy with cream, apricot, honey, touches of marzipan/almond paste, a little almost mushroom note in the background. In the mouth it's rich, fleshy, tiny touch of bitterness, similar flavours to the nose but with the honey more to the fore, quite glycerol fatness here as well as a smidge of alcohol warmth on the finish. Probably right to tidy this up now but it is still rather lovely. And, unfortunately as this now retails in Australia at 500 AUD, this may well be one of the last times I get to try this rather wonderful wine.

WSET 2 group tasting (My place, Utrecht, NL): Bought at an auction, this was on my bucket list for quite a while. White rioja and Hermitage were called. This showed beautifully tonight, developed obviously but still very much standing. Medium+ intensity with honey, marzipan, almond, dried apricot, creme brulee, dried apple, mocca. Very oily in the mouth with firestone, tangerine, orange peel, medium acidity, long finish. 93-94

Second time I've tasted this one, last bottle was 2017.

Was served blind, no specific theme in tasting, so anything goes these evenings.
From the start till the end ... this exceeds any expectation of what wine can bring you.
And whilst it does start showing some age ( hence the 99 and not 100 ), it remains fully enjoyable.
A nose one could keep smelling ... full bodied in mouth, so succulent and sexy, smooth and round.

A minor debate around the table if this bottle was "over the top" was quickly silenced in pouring them a second glass.

Love it ... want it ... need it ... buy it .... taste it !
