Still fresh with pronounced candied lime tones and significant petrol. Balanced but not bone dry. Vibrant but also a little intense, which could be divisive

Golden. Now, fully mature from my warmer than textbook cellar, this shows its terroir character and quality with exotic fruits, spices and slate. Not as chisseled as some of its peers this has a lot to give with this hedonistic profile. Maybe in a shutdown phase if perfectly cellared. 5/11/16/9. -2028+

For now this is quite closed. Some slate and peach notes, but not the intensity and complexity I expect. Give it another year in the cellar. I hope it lives up to my earlier expectations. 5/10/15/8

Very strong petrol on the nose. Sweet fruit lingers somewhere behind but petrol dominates. A not inconsiderable amount of CO2 remains which leaves a pleasant tingle on the tongue.

Nice balance of fruit flavors and acidity, but not hugely complex. At around $13 equivalent here in Japan, I would say this is reasonable value.

Tasted at Three Borders Wine Group, Hampshire, UK. Medium gold colour. Closed nose, some lemon, hint of petrol. The palate is quite sweet, peachy, honeyed. Complex, long finish.

Light straw. Slate, minerals with citrus and peach like scents and flavors. On the palate quite sweet for a kabinett, but not unbalanced because of the minerality and fruitiness. This will develope and hold through for some years, maybe a decade, but what's also true: I'm not sure if its not best quite now. 5/11/16/7+

The acid seems a little less zippy than previous bottles, but still reasonably good sugar/acid balance for 2009. Very easy to drink without paying much attention to it, but this is a good wine; I'm just spoiled.

Secured under traditional cork. Intense gold in colour with talcum powder on a quite retiring nose. Zesty taste, with apricot, lime and honey flavours predominant. Really strong through the mid-palate, and finishing with a lingering intensity that is very pleasant indeed. Faded relatively quickly once opened.

Light golden colour. The difference in style couldn't be greater between the Hofgut Falkenstein Kabinett "Kugel Peter" 2020 and this one and this is not an issue of the different vintages. This shows more power, better balance at this stage and is ready to drink quite now. Intense fruit of pineapple and peaches with slate scents and flavors underneath. Not that nuanced at this stage as the Falkenstein and more like a spätlese. But definitely the more enjoyable style for the next, let's say 5 years minimum. 5/12/17/9, 2020-2029

It's my favorite, color, nose, how it hit's your tastes buds. So sad to learn that Kerpen has had some changes and is not producing wines like they used to.

Drinking well, pale golden straw, deep petro nose, light on the tongue, just a well structured wine.

This is a beautiful wine. At age 9 this wine is completely youthful and pale in color. Acid and sugar in perfect balance. Although lightly sweet, it is not cloying and very refreshing. The nose is tropical with a hint of fossil fuel that is part of ripe Riesling. This is an excellent wine for Asian food like Chinese, curries, Thai, spicy cuisines and even sushi. This Kabinett will last for years to come and will transform its character to become more golden and more interesting while giving up some freshness.

Hazy notes from last week. Integrating very nicely now, a great melange of fruit and acidity and a long finish. Fruits are mainly in the stone fruit realm. Drinking well now but will definitely last many years (A-).

Sweet. Acidic with aroma of lime. Somewhat sharp. After a while, the wine totally became cider with an unpleasant aftertaste. The sweetness is not balanced for my taste. I do not like it.

Still very bright, earthy yellow peach, lemon peel, lemon cake, high acid, I don't think this will ever mellow out! Oktoberfest at Bri's.

Screw cap. A whiff of sulphour for starters. Typical for this producer: Dried fruit like abricots and apples. A little bit of honey, I guess due to a touch of botrytis. Not your light and fizzy kabinett that drinks like lemonade, but very enjoyable nontheless. Would love to try this with a spicy Moroccan tajine. Very good QPR and always a safe buy. Drink or hold.

I think these were meant to be consumed younger. Typical classic petrol nose, but no fruit left at all. Not sure how to best describe it, but it was sweet, but with no fruit.

Puh, this has closed down significantly. The wines from Kerpen are more fruit and less terroir driven than the wines of the best mosel producers. But this is showing much less intensity than in the last years. Wait and hope that it is going to return to be more delicious than now in some more years. 5/10/15/7+. 2025-2030?

Color: Pale straw. Nose: Lemon and papaya. Palate: Light citrus, clover honey, slightly spritzy. Very nice at its price point.

Aromas of honey and flowers. Sweet, with a little acid kick in the finish to balance it out, but mostly sweet. Mild-medium body and flavor.

I suspect lots of RS but excellent acidity and comes across as more gently sweet. Lovely yellow fruits, more mineral showing than 12/17. This is a good wine that is very enjoyable to drink now though will likely get better over years.

8% alcohol. Tasted blind among 49 other 2016 Riesling Kabinetts in Kabinett Cup 2016.

Pale green color. Very pure, quite ripe and thoroughly classic Mosel Riesling nose with aromas of sweet apple and slatey stone. The wine feels ripe, medium-dy to medium-sweet and very balanced on the palate with flavors of ripe red apples, some wet stones and a little bit of floral character. The acidity feels moderately high, but not as bracing as Kerpens wines can sometimes be. The finish is pure, ripe and juicy with medium-dry to medium-sweet flavors of fresh apples, stony minerality and a hint of juicy citrus fruits.

A very classic and balanced Mosel Riesling where everything seems to be nicely in place. However, the wine also feels very linear and pretty one-dimensional - the wine shows the grace and balance of a ballet dancer, but flavor-wise the wine is very primary and lacking in depth. For now it is a pleasant yet a bit simple, medium-dry Kabinett, but perhaps with a handful of years it might gain some additional complexity. The wine managed to secure a total of 3 points from 12 judges, making it overall the 12th best wine out of 50 wines. Solid value at 10,50€

This was an impulse buy...so glad I did. It is quite lively for a 15 year old wine. Paired with chicken & cilantro potstickers and a quinoa salad. Citrus, enough sweetness that it should be consumed with somewhat spicy food. Extremely lengthy finish, honeyed apricot, orange peel, & floral notes. The cork looked like it was going to be bad (dark black on top 1/8 inch) but the full cork revealed that not to be the case and no off flavors. At least a few years remaining...drink now

Well, maybe it was a bit affected by the transportation in december, when I first tasted this. However today, especially compared to the Kabinett Leistenberg 2012 from Dönnhoff, it makes a better job. Given the price difference between the two, one could expect that the Dönnhoff Kabinett would outclass the Kerpen Kabinett. In fact the Dönnhoff shows only a bit more power. Something that can be due to the three more years of bottle age. However, as in the past the Kerpen's 2015 are true bargains.

Verging on golden reflecting its 12 years of age. Petrol, honey dominate underpinned by green apple. Lovely but didn't hit the back if the throat and lacked complexity. Cellared for too long?

Yellow. Honey, lime, apple, and pear. Fairly rich for a Mosel Kabinett, noticeable sweetness, some baby powder in addition to all the fruit, average acidity, and a little late slate. Very good summer sipper, nothing more.

Finishes on the sweet side, but the vibrant acidity and green apples mid palate is great. First time with an aged Riesling and I will be looking for more of it due to this wine. The nose was also intoxicating. Wish I had purchased more.

There is an insane amount of tart green apple in this wine. If this is not your thing then consider it a 85-point wine. I personally love it in a Riesling. Nose has pineapple and kiwi. Mid palate is full of tart green apples and a hint of grapefruit skin. Finishes slightly on the sweet side but very well balanced.
