Notes of red berries and a little herbs. Soft on tannins. Enjoyable wine with good length.

Tasted from barrel at property just before bottling. Smokier. Nice oak along with the cassis and blackberries and some darker cherry. Smokier oak and spices on long, complex finish. Dense and concentrated but with great acidic balance.

My favourite out of all of the Grand Crus. 96-97+.

Opened at POB Paulee in HK.

End of the night wine, so minimal notes and P&P even though it was still enjoyed quite a few hours. Confusing BM for me, didn't really remind me of the terroir. Also am unfamiliar with Bernstein so perhaps I need more experience with this producer to get a sense for the house style.

Still, good to open and share with friends and drinking nicely after a 1-2 hours of being opened in the bottle.

the wine has decent fruit and nice acidity but very little complexity.. especially for the money seems kind of insane.. the structure even felt a little rickety

Coming back to this after about 2 years. Opened for 1.5 hours. Color is ruby red. On the nose: Cherry, spice and cola. On the palate: Tart Cherry, cranberry, cola, warm lavender and baking spices. Mouthfeel is sensuous, very elegant and rich. I think still would benefit from more aging. I put off next one for a few more years.

Sam's 60th Birthday (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL): Small glass, brief note. More red vs black cherry with very good concentration and a sweet, spicy start. Still firm with the tannins still a bit too front-and-center. I haven't tasting this since visiting OB in 2010, when I felt patience would be required. It's slowly getting there.

Initially blackberries and curious notes of oak, closer to leather and something medicinal. For a time gamey. But on the palette, as the hours wore on... My palette was fatigued by brash oak, and not nearly enough fruit. The perfume and fruit of bonnes mares seems marred by 100% new oak.

Subtle nose of ripe red fruit, some asphalt and spice. Unimpressive on the palate. Flaccid with an alcoholic finish. Not what I expected.

A lot of wow in this wine. Tart cherries, red fruits plus lavender and a bit of spice and cola. Long and luscious mouthfeel. Needs more time but very easy to drink now.

Pausing for the Cause 2019 (Chicago, IL): Overpriced moderately-oaked Oregon pinot? Nope, Olivier Bernstein! A pretty charmless wine, lacking any real Burgundian sensibility. The earth elements have been obliterated by ripe fruit and fancy oak. Want your three bottles of DRC from Wilson Daniels? You'll have to take a pallet of this first.

Olivier Bernstein Cellar Visit and Tasting (Day 5, Visit 3) (Beaune): Barrel tasting at Bernstein. From Terres Rouges. Very bright cherry, more red vs black with excellent and elegant textures. Very impressive density, while still nicely accessible. Very long finish. Impressive 93-94 point potential.

Wilson Daniels Dinner (Blackbird - Chicago IL): Rich black berry aromas with thyme and tarragon. Similar fresh fruit flavors also bring out some red fruit, along with equally good spice. Powerful, long and meaty. If served blind, I'd have thought a top Gevrey Grand Cru. Still firm middle through finish, so this wine needs time in the cellar, but is certainly pleasurable right now.

Olivier Bernstein Cellar Visit and Barrel Tasting (Beaune): Barrel tasting. Interesting enough to taste, but impossible to assess with the wine just 20% finished with ML. Massive acidity and just mouth puckering. One other cuvée is 80% done, all the others 100%.

At Noosa. Dark black plum colour. Fine primary nose of black fruits with touches of red cherry. Palate intense and very primary with a big dollop of dark plums, cherries and strawberry liqueur. Fine finish - quite austere tannin and acidity but with very good length. This is modern winemaking when compared to the Mugnier 01 BM that was opened alongside.

Quite dark in colour, glowing. Darker fruit notes, holding back quite a bit, herbal, game, undergrowth. Mineral and really powerful on the palate, great acidity, rich fruit, with assuring but round tannic frame. Wonderful balance, drive and length. Very young obviously. One to look forward to. 2025-2045+. 93-94+

Bonnes Mares tasting with Jasper Morris; 2/24/2014-3/1/2014 (Berry, Bros & Rudd, St James, London): Deep purple in colour, plenty of toasted wood on the nose from the 100% new barrels, some whole bunches in is wine. Quite big in style, quite earthy flavours, good length, not really my style of wine, it's just too big in every way.

There was something rather stringent about this bottle. Maybe it needed more time in the bottle. It lacked fruit and while pleasant was a disappointment. Not up to the standards I expected of Bernstein.

Knightsbridge Annual Holiday Burgundy Tasting and Sale (Northbrook, IL): Tasting, brief note. slightly reductive to start. Aromas show a wide array of red, black and blue fruit with plenty of spice, lots of new oak influence coming through right now. Palate is equally complex with lots of powerful fruit, nicely framed by mineral, tannic and acidic support. Great concentration. Great spice.

Oliver Bernstein Tasting (Fix St James, Sydney): Stem driven nose, with some raspberry and violets. The palate is much more savoury, with the tannins standing out right now. Bonnes Mares is a vineyard that I love, but this didn't have the depth on the palate I'd expect even at this early stage.

ok its young. we gave it a good hour in the decanter and that was not nearly enough. first impression was the wood. even though there was acidity lurking underneath all that heavy oak this still tasted russian river valley to me. i actually found it difficult to finish more than a glass. there was a bit of length and it did soften up slightly after another hour of air. Still hardly pleasant for me today and anyone's guess how it will turn out in 10-20 yrs. glad to have tried it so at least i know. maybe i give one of his village a try just to confirm my impressions.
