Robert Mondavi and First Growth Bordeaux (Walnut Creek, Ca.): Smoky, toasty nose, same on palate and finish, shows hints of butter throughout, medium body, tasty, nice finish.

With Michael Lehmann at London Wine Bar. Good straw color. Citrus nose, pretty fair. Very oaky, though there is a fruit as well. Oaky wine. 5-10-14-6: 85/100.

With the Furth gang at Katy Rogers' going away dinner at Trader Vic's. Straw color. Toasty, rich, oaky nose. Very nice. Quite rich and toasty on the palate as well. Good stuff. 5-11-15-7: 88/100.

With K at home at dinner (crab Genovese). Very deep yellow. Rather one dimensional aroma and flavor on opening. Buttery. Fat, flabby. Low in acid. Seems old before it's time, though not yet unpleasant. Obvious full body and weight, but without the fruit to match. 5-9-13-5: 82/100. Later, nose opening to reveal butterscotch. Still later, great nose of buttered popcorn, with lemony fruit in the mouth. 5-11-15-7: 88/100.

Nice lux oak dominates the experience for me, though it is not extreme (esp. in CA) and is nicely balanced with a broad variety of rich fruit, good acidity, both smooth and tart. Tasty and clear impression of quality. 90+

This is a tasty oaky Chardonnay from Carneros.

Full bodied and bold with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with oak, vanilla, spices, yellow apples, herbs and black pepper.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 years.

Good right out of the bottle and better after 30 minutes of airtime.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

This is a tasty and elegant Chardonnay from Carneros.

Dry on the palate with medium acidity. Buttery and elegant.

Showing citrus, oak, vanilla, spices, overripe pears, yellow apples, light earth and limes.

Nice length on the finish with limes and black pepper.

Spicy and interesting. Good by itself or with food.

This oaky Chardonnay is very good right out of the bottle, but needs an hour to chill and relax. Still young and would be nice to revisit it in a couple of years.

I paired it with a beautiful view on the lake.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

light straw colored and medium bodied with acidity on the lower end of the spectrum. the wine has a very creamy mouthfeel and has aged quite nicely. the effects of the new oak are somewhat muted but definitely there. i get vanilla, pear, and some hints of tropical fruit on the palate. the wine drank better an hour into the bottle as the fruit started to come forward a bit. a nice wine to drink on its own but not sure what food i would pair it with..............nice balance and an elegant if not decadent style. California!

Pale lemon in color.

Strong oaky nose of citrus, cedar, toast, vanilla, spices, golden apples and white pepper.

Full bodied, buttery and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with toasted oak, vanilla, spices, apples and black pepper.

Spicy finish with limes.

This is a young Oaky Chardonnay from Carneros. Big, bold and fruit forward.

Needs a couple of years in the bottle to mature. I had the 2018 recently, and it was much better so its worth waiting for a bit.

A little much for me at this point, but it was a big hit at the table.

A good quality wine that needs time to chillax.

This 3 year old Chardonnay from Carneros is drinking nicely now.

Fruity with lots of wood and vanilla notes.

Full-bodied, smooth and soft, with medium acidity and a buttery mouthfeel.

Dry on the palate with oak, vanilla, toast, red apples, spices, citrus, light grapefruits, earth, lemons and herbs.

After 30 minutes of airtime, the wood and vanilla notes calm down, and it gets much better.

A good quality wine and a nice wine to drink by itself or with food.

I paired it with dried meats and olives, by the pool.

Light golden in color.

Nice nose of citrus, sweet oak, vanilla, spices, red apples, toast, pears and white pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with toasted oak, apples, citrus, white pepper, vanilla, light herbs and spices.

Long finish with limes.

This is a tasty oaky Chardonnay from Carneros in California.

Nicely balanced, and not bitter nor tart. Just right. Showing mild complexity with a nice mouthfeel. Oak is there, but not overwhelming.

Might be even nicer in a couple of years. I'll make sure to check it out then.

Alcohol is nicely integrated, so watch out.

Fresh and good enough to drink all by itself. A great porch wine. Tangy and spicy. Rich and interesting.

I enjoyed it by the pool.

Excellent showing. Youthful and structured, with buttery aromas of orchard fruit, glazed peaches, brioche, and a kiss of vanilla. It shows concentration and intensity yet it’s impressively balanced and restrained, with juicy acidity and a tactile mouthfeel providing tension and delineation to the expansive fruit flavors. Orange zest and a wisp of toast build and linger on the long, vibrant finish. Lovely and will get better with time. 92+

This is solid Chardonnay for the money: it has a pleasant steely and creamy quality that becomes apparent after an hour of air. Light yellow in color and medium in body, the wine offers aromas of green apple, saline, almond extract. Tastes of lemon peel, pear, gooseberry, and vanilla bean, with a bright and lingering finish that still maintains the wine's creamy, almost oily mouthfeel. 14.5% alcohol.

This grew on me with air, so give it some time to open up. It's not incredibly original or edgy, but it is a well-made, classy, and widely-available CA wine for about $40 - so absolutely no complaints here. Given the acidity and structure, this may be even better in a year or so.

The nose was a bit reserved at first, but comes through with creamy tropical fruit, along with some faint spice. In the mouth, this wine feels great with a nice weight and creaminess balanced with good acidity. It really shines on the very long, soft, delicious finish. This wine is quite enjoyable, but as I taste it, I'm also ambivalent, i.e., moments where everything comes together and others that seem a bit disjointed. Overall more positive than not, however.

Citrus, stone fruit and some melon. Lots of vanilla and spice from the oak. Not a completely over-the-top fruit and buttered popcorn bomb but still a pretty heavy handed California Chardonnay.

Pale lemon colour. The nose shows medium+ intensity aromas of orange peel, fresh peaches, pineapple, fennel, vanilla and cedar.

It is dry in the mouth with a medium+ acidity. It has a medium+ alcohol and a medium+ body with an oily mouthfeel. It has pronounced intensity flavours and a long finish.

It is an outstanding quality wine. It shows complexity provided by oak ageing, it has a lingering finish and a very tasty concentration balanced by the acidity, and the alcohol is also well kept at bay. It shows an overall beautiful balance.

Light golden yellow. Aromas of yellow apple, pear, and brioche. Lees contact lends creamy texture but it's not overly heavy on the palate. Cool climate Carneros fruit and partially blocked malolactic fermentation help maintain some energy and acidity.

BYO Blind Tasting: Blind. Mature, wonderful Chardonnay smell, celery and nuts; good length, bitter finish, very dry, intense and long, full bodied, lingering, mouth-filling, low alcohol kept me in Europe. Perhaps lacking a bit in complexity. All guessed this as central burgundy pre preox period, me: 1985 Meursault or Chassagne. Big surprise when its identity was revealed.

This medium yellow/gold wine was barrel-fermented and aged for six months in French oak (61% new). Rich and expansive, it offers bold aromas and flavors of orchard fruits, honeydew, allspice and buttered toast. Medium-bodied and with surprisingly fresh acidity, it is dense in the middle and shows no heat from its 13.5% alcohol. Finishing long and smooth, this is an impressive Chardonnay that should be at its best over the next 3-4 years. Drink now-2020.

This was a gift from a friend and what a nice gift. We thought it might have been over the hill but it definitely is not. The aromas are mild with a bit of creamy Meyer lemon but there's lots of flavors with lemon zest, honeysuckle, nuttiness, and light toasty oak.

Had this at the winemakers retirement reception. Somewhere between a Chablis and a fully oaked barrel fermented Napa Chardonnay it really needed more bottle age to develop and it was too cold. Any way it was quite nice, tart and fresh with integrated oak and very approachable citrus flavors.

Showing oxidative character, not unexpected for the age, this wine is rich gold with green to silver hues. Toasted bread, dried fruits and nuts, baked apple, oily citrus zest, and roasted pineapple. Medium plus finish, with a hint of bitterness.

Golden brown color. Surprised to find this wine upright and still reasonably fresh and enjoyable. More honey than lemon on the palate, medium plus viscosity, with resolved oak. Graceful finish, medium in length. Easily the class of a decent group of older wines tonight. Appeared to have been a passively stored bottle.

Color: Golden Straw
Nose: Citrus, green apple, with subtle peach and oak
Palate: Great balance of creaminess and acidity
Finish: Medium bodies long lasting silky smooth finish
Thoughts: We are so glad to see that Mondavi has joined the rest of Napa and not making over oaked Chardonnay's. We had stopped drinking them, but what are doing now they are outstanding. Mondavi did a great job on this one and glad we have a few more in the cellar. Found out that the 2012 Reserve has been sold out already, bummed we didn't get any.
