still not showing any real signs of age - rich dark fruit finish and smooth tannins. This is very good for the vintage. 3-4 more hours decant would have made this 2-3 points higher given how it performed over the night

Two bottles, both showed well. Raspberry, cocoa, cinnamon, plum, sweet vanilla finish.

Drinking beautifully right now. Very dark cherry and blackberry fruits. Well integrated. Tannins almost nonexistent. Probably the best Monsieur etain ive had. Hope you have some left

Collectable Wine Night (Tuscany Steakhouse NYC): My first of 3 bottles that I purchased upon release. This was decanted for over an hour before pouring. I shared this with my wine group alongside 2 other collectable reds and it was the group's 2nd favorite wine. Not quite full bodied with a long finish, and a great nose.

Deep ruby red color. Needed 20 -30 minutes in the first glass to open up and show its depth and breadth. Rich berry fruit, licorice and tobacco with hints of chocolate and leather in the nose. Lots of black and blue fruits in the flavor, black cherries, blackberries, black currants, blueberries and plums. Well balanced, medium to full bodied, complex, medium to long silky finish.Drinking very well right now.

Needed a bit of time in the glass to show its true form. Lot of red ripe fruits on the nose and in the mouth. Tannins have subsided, but still present. This vintage has a lot more time to age in the cellar. Truly an enjoyment to match with seafood!

Still a 99. This wine is amazing. Maybe we’re not bougie enough to shame a ‘Napa Fruit bomb’? But me and the lady found this to be nearing perfection. Definitely fruity and complex with a gorgeous balance of med-heavy body, gentle tannins, mild acidity, and moderate alcohol. At 15 years old, it is still gloriously dark plum in color and bright in taste. Some beautiful sediment at the bottom shows its age. No decanting necessary. Although it only got more delicious through the course of our 1 hr meal. If you’re patient enough to wait, could be worth it. Straight from our cellar to our table and into our glass. So delicious! Anything from Scarecrow is so tempting to drink immediately, since that is completely doable, but this is a reminder that maybe I should hold onto my bottles a little longer before I enjoy these delights.

PnP tasted non-blind over two hours. This took only a few minutes to open, and from there it had some subtle shifts along the way; fairly linear, elegantly textured. Some avg complexity and length, graceful at times, and in need of some more time to more fully flesh out though most at the dinner found it just fine as is. If I had any, I'd open again in five years, and not before, as I think it will have become more interesting, more complete.

Last bottle of the case, basically drank 1/year until they were gone. Tremendous evolution and the last was the best. Tannins smooth as silk, plum, black raspberry, light vanilla, lilac, red earth. Still more years ahead. 96+

Big but not overwhelming, truly delicious with lamb loin chops and a mushroom risotto. The wine looks crimson colored with a mushroomy aroma, although that might have been influenced by the risotto. The body is medium/full with silky texture and medium finish, low acidity. Truly excellent.

Both great bottles of wine. Tannins are not as gripping as younger wines. Paired with 2009 Gemstone 1.75. Interestingly, both corks broke on open. Yet the juice was still wonderfully preserved. Wine has lots of life left and was a joy to share during the Holiday season.

Deep ruby. The rather delicate nose for a CA Cabernet takes time and air to reveal itself with sage, herbs, red fruit and lead pencil. On the palate, the fruit is balanced with good acidity and a tannic backbone which lasts through the long finish. This can definitely age well, and while delicious now, should be given a bit of air to unfold. Great showing for a second wine.

Nice leathery nose. Disappointed that cork broke in half. A left bank wine with nice fruit, big and beautiful.

"Off" Vintages from Elite Producers: (Petrus, Lafite, Margaux, etc) (Charlotte, NC): Decanted at 5:30am, put back in bottle 45 min later and refrigerated. Brought to dinner and popped the cork about 90 min prior to serving.
Rich nose of cassis and gentle floral notes. Great depth of flavor on the palate delivered with the deftness of a master winemaker – dark red and black fruits with hints of complexity just beginning to show. The rich flavors hit your palate with a gentleness you don’t expect from this reputationally “big” wine. Long, savory finish. A wonderful and approachable wine that complimented the more decidedly Old World lineup and very fitting in its quality. Is ‘Mr. Tin” actually a “value-wine” in the ultra-premium Napa market? Served properly, maybe so.

Right inline w/ the 2012 vintage. Fruity and light earthiness. I see the critical range of 92-94. It depends on your love of fruit vs earthiness. The fruit loads on the front end and the earth & complexity comes on backend. The thing that holds this back from becoming more is its lack of depth. If you like fruit over deep complexity, you’ll love this 12. 3 hour decant and the truth is it picks up weight in the very end. For this producer vintage, not worth the price of admission.

Similar notes to last tasting. Starts with blueberry fruit on the nose and morphs to tobacco leaf, and bell pepper. In mouth the wine begins with black cherry, (still not quite fully ripened) blackberry grape jelly and set with a creamy texture. Really well balanced.

Decanted for 2 hours. Aromas of blackberry, dried black cherry, leather, lead pencil and mocha. Flavors of black cherry, blackberry, hint of plum, melted chocolate and hint of iron. Ends with long finish of 35-40 seconds with sweet red fruit notes. This is tasting very young with a lot of fruit.

Dark ruby in color with a reddish/ brick rim.

Nose of blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, cedar, cola, vanilla, spices, espresso, light herbs, dark chocolates, tobacco, peppercorn, light alcohol and leather.

Full bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black plums, figs, tobacco, cedar, leather, vanilla, licorice, spices, herbs, coffee, chocolates and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Well balanced with a great mouthfeel. Complex and interesting. Elegant, rich and fruit forward.

This 14 year old is drinking very nicely right out of the bottle, and better with air. Tannins show up after 2 hours in the decanter, and bring in nice structure.

Does not drink like a 14 year old at all, and feels much younger. Will continue to age nicely in the next few years. Feels like it is nearing its peak. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years.

Good by itself or with food. A great sipping wine to have with good friends. This is a gorgeous wine.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in (85% new) French oak barrels for 16 months.

15.2% alcohol by volume.

94 points.

$225.

1 hour decant. Didn’t show as well as prior bottle. Way too thin around mid palate. I think a victim of the mediocre vintage.

A big wine. Not too sweet. I definitely think it needs time in the Cantor. It is the color of ink. Not as smooth as the Scarecrow flagship wine. It is coarse compared to that.

Consistent with a few years ago. Dark and not at all sweet. Almost like a cross between a cab and a syrah with black fruit and hints of tobacco and olive. Quite compelling wine.

Opened this next to a 2012 Scarecrow. Blind I wouldn't have thought these wines were related in a slightest. Different fruit profile, structure etc. etc.

Muscular medium plus tannins. Dark bramble vs. red fruits.

Consumed over two days with more approachability on day two. Or consider a long decant and some sediment filtering.

93+

Popped the cork on this bottle to celebrate my 7th wedding anniversary .

Decanted for approximately 60+ minutes and consumed over an additional 3 hours. Conterno Sensory stems were used and the wine was paired with Flannery 90 day dry aged bone-in Kansas Strip Steak.

The 2016 is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 6% Malbec and 3% Merlot.

Initially, the aromas were slightly muted but there were hints of blue/black fruits and brown spices. The nose opened up overtime. The palate was of black cherry, acai berry, blackberry, cocoa, and allspice with hints of earthiness and herbaceous traces. There was medium(-) acidity with fine grained tannins that gained in intensity and were considerably more present with the final glass. The mouthfeel was silky smooth with medium-full to full body.

The wine was good but my expectations might have been a little too high. The wine may also be a little shutdown but it can be coaxed to strut some of its stuff with extended air.

The best glass was the last!

Beautiful bottle. It took about an hour to open up, decanted. Not super weighty on the palate, full of dark and red fruit on the nose… delicious wine. This one definitely lived up to the expectations. Be patient and let it decant before you start enjoying it.

Pretty amazing wine. Took out for a 15th anniversary (didn't have any 2008s left!) and it didn't disappoint. About where I would want to drink them and a touch old for my wife (but still "incredibly delicious"). This is showing the more complex flavors of green olive, cedar, dense red meat in addition to the core of black and blue fruits. A delicious, hypothetical blend of Rutherford and Oakville. Continues to change in the glass over 2 hours. Pretty stunning for a 14 year old wine.

Aging out for my tastes, although for some this may just be coming in to its prime. Still a very smooth and complex wine, but is losing a lot of its fruit flavors, with leather and cedar now becoming dominant flavors.

It was rich, mouth-coating monster (only in the very best sense) of a wine that was smooth and beautifully balanced (for such a powerful wine) and had a lovely long finish.

Slow ox’d over 2 hrs and then poured- was way too tight to PNP. Opened up a bit over the next hour of drinking but was gone quickly. Not a typical big overpowering cab. Complex, light on its feet, and a finish that I am still thinking about. One of the best wines I’ve had in a while. Drinking wonderfully now but seems like it will cellar well for medium term. Will look to acquire more.
