Weird scent upon opening, the cork was in a bad shape.

Upon pouring a glass to test the wine I see that the wine is really cloudy.

The wine was full of bret!

Spice, cedar, leafy tobacco, and red currants create the character here. Medium-bodied, soft, forward and ready-to-go, this is quite nice for the vintage. Drink from 2024-2030.

So...bottle # 2 .....since last reviewed Dec 2021.
On nose and palate: still holding up nicely with firm acidity and displaying a fine array of tobacco, herbal and eucalyptus notes, underpinning fresh blueberry and a ghost of cassis and a faint echo of damp earth.
Old school Bordeaux....fine food wine...classic medium bodied cru bourgeois....may still last a few years.

Splash decanted off some sediment. Drank over two night. Muted note, cassis, some earthy notes. Relatively lean and tart on the palate. Red fruit, cranberry, moving toward black currant, with a bit of leather and some drying tannins on the back end. Short finish. I liked this better the second day, seemed to become a little less shrill. Satisfactory basic Bordeaux, I like it at $25.

Nose: Muted; old library, dusty books, very faint dried cassis. Palate: Loads of leather, very balanced and even, dust, scorched earth, and very little fruit, polished tannins that coat the tongue, and plenty of acid; hint of balsamic on the finish.

Nose: Menthol (nearly peppermint), cassis, wet embers, something resembling dried beef. Palate: lean and a bit prickly; tart red current and unsweetened cranberry; angular tannins that cause a strong mouth drying effect. With time, the cranberry becomes more dominant with stewed prunes and barrel spice components emerging.

Judging by my TN, this is quite like the 2005 at a similar age. It is quite full and structured with attractive fresh red fruit and decent acidity but there is a creamy patina with hints of vanilla which, though superficially pleasing, detracts for me from the wine's elegance. Good easy drinking and decent QPR (<€14) bourgeois claret, though.

Distinctively blueberry. NOT sweet. Not jammy. Very undimensional by way of the...you guessed it, blueberry. Drinks French.

Für 2 Euro bei ebay mitgekauft. Füllstand: into neck.

89-90 Punkte?

I couldn't agree more with Ganyu's note below. It's a 2005 that is drinking beautifully now, showing some tertiary notes, but still with the fruit intensity that is the hallmark of this vintage. The fruit has definitely gotten a bit cooked and leathery, but the structure is holding rather nicely, perhaps just a bit angular in a less polished way.

Very much in agreement with many of the reviews on this thread:
On nose:faint eucalyptus, a ghost of oregano and tobacco.
On palate: the above flavour notes, as well as , blueberries, light oak, light mesquite charcoal and softening tannins....lean , savoury and medium bodied.
At 16 years of age, after a 1 hour decant , this is a fine food wine....classic , old school Haut- Medoc...but the slight lack of richer fruit notes suggest drinking NOW....may survive for a few more years...perhaps.

I love to give older bordeaux a try. It doesn't have to be a perfect, but 76' was good for some producers.

The cork was wet and pushed down, so I had to push it down into the wine, and decant the wine.
Tasted over 3 hours while decanted

The nose:
Coffee, caramel, tomato, sour cherry, burned oak.

The palate:
Red sour berries, flowers, caramel with an oaky finish.

Not that complex but for this appellation that's 45 years old, it's quite good, consider the age.

89P - very impressive

Appearance: deep ruby, garnet highlights, starting to show some rim variation, heavy tearing, medium+ staining, moderate amount of fine sediment.

Nose: clean, developing, medium intensity, red currant, black currant, black plum, red bell pepper jam, dusty earth, sage, tobacco, alder wood, cured meat, baked plum.

Palate: dry, medium acid, medium+ tannin, high alcohol (14.5%), medium+ intensity, medium+ body, medium finish, red currant, black currant, black plum, red bell pepper jam, dusty earth, sage, tobacco, alder wood, cured meat, baked plum.

Overall: A reasonably well balanced Bordeaux starting to show some savory tertiary development to compliment the ripe fruit and slight herbal edge. Showing some of the ripeness of the vintage, but definitely not overdone, this feels halfway between traditional and modern. A pretty decent value, and a nice compliment to grilled steak.

Tasted over two days.

I had a very different experience than Purple Tooth. The bottle I tasted delivered excellent depth and range, with hints of knee-weakening Creme de Cassis. Medium plus acid and medium tannins create a bracing frame that contains the wine's substance.

Showing considerable secondary elements, thought not yet anything tertiary. Likely to continue its evolution and hold through 2030. It might improve.

Nose: earthy funk, hint of barnyard, tertiary aromas that are hard to describe, old wood. Palate: tart berries (black and red), more of a berry essence (not-fruit-forward), chalky leaning towards plush tannins with good acid balance; a little one-dimensional, but a really a nice wine for the price ($20).

If you like old school Bordeaux in the ultimate drinking stage, this is for you. Maybe, just a pinch on either side of the arc, but very close to the middle, marked by its weightlessness and super dry tannic punch. Earthy nose leads you through a hallway filled with cellar must and old stable. No, I am not trying to sell you a house, but if you like Gruaud Larose wines, this would be as close to a baby Gruaud as I could get. The lack of fruit and high acidity makes this a wine to drink soon. DRINK

PS_Pickle found some real quality here and his note was my reason for trying this. TYMTP!

Konnte eine OHK für um 10 € die Flasche um 2010 kaufen.
Flasche immer in Dormagen.

Fairly classic Haut Medoc nose, cassis and spackle, leafy, a little toasty, plasticine.
Smooth, black currant and plum, good acidity modest tannins, earthy, violets, ash, a little blue cheese, good fruit finish.
Very good aged Haut Medoc, drinks well now, but may be better in 3+ years (has good acidity and fruit).

This is definitely fuller and more structured than the 2004, of which I have picked up a few bottles recently at a friendly price. However there is a creamy patina here which is absent in the 2004 and, though superficially pleasing, detracts for me from the wine's elegance. Good easy drinking bourgeois claret, though.

With a chicken, asparagus and creamy sauce pairing, this did not seem as small and discreet as I noted with beef and maître d'hôtel trimmings. Indeed it is just what I look for from a mature bourgeois claret. Unspectacular but well balanced with gracious fruit, some complexity and still firm finish. The effect is enhanced by a friendly price of c.€12. I hope the store still has some bottles. Good++.

The nose reveals; dark brooding & slightly bake fruits of; blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, black plum, some poached strawberries & haunting blue fruits. Black tea, forest floor with leaves, anise, limestone, moist clay, dry crushed rocks, dry stones, beautiful, mid intensity dark spice, dry tobacco, graphite, mixed dark berry cola, understated, well layered baking spices; clove, nutmeg, cinnamon & vanilla, dry herbs, mint with candied; dark, red, blue and purple florals.

The body is full, rich, lush, satiny with plenty of well rounded, soften tannins. The tension, structure, length and balance are excellent and will continue to improve. This will last another 15 years and beyond with proper storage. This is a very classic Bordeaux well balance in fruit and earth. It is sheer elegance on the palate. It’s why I love Bordeaux more than Napa and I love Napa Valley Cabernet. Dark brooding & slightly bake, ripe fruits of; blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, black plum, boysenberries, some poached strawberries & haunting blue fruits. Black tea, dark chocolate bar, touch of mocha powder, light caramel notes, Expresso notes, forest floor with leaves, anise, limestone, moist clay, dry crushed rocks, dry stones, beautiful, mid intensity dark Asian & Indian spices with just right amount of palate heat, dry tobacco, graphite, dry twigs with a little sap, mixed dark berry cola, understated, well layered baking spices; clove, nutmeg, cinnamon & vanilla, dry herbs/sage, mint with candied; dark, red, blue and purple florals. The acidity is round and nearly perfect. The long finish is, classic, elegant, well balance fruit and earthy Bordeaux that persists softly on the palate for minutes with just the right amount of spice.
This is a heady wine that you really think about as you slowly sip and it affects your whole body. Can’t wait to have another in five years.
