Introduction
My tasting was postponed in May and I regrouped for this tasting. The wines had been in the restaurant cellar for the entire time. Since the dinner/tasting was postponed we ended up enjoyig the food from the new chef who really enjoys wine! Sue as always did a great job with the private room with help from a visiting sommelier.
Flight 1 (1 note)
Out of magnum.
Flight 2 (10 notes)
The idea for the evening was to showcase some pretty good California cabs against some of the very good French bordeaux. The wines were set up double blind with the CA wines 1-5 and the French wines 6-10. The comments from the group identified that their were two different groups, but some thought a vertical, some thought Rhone and one thought Aussie. So the tasting was a great education and fun. I have listed the wines below in the order of the scores from highest to lowest.
Flight 3 (1 note)
Hands down the wine of the night. Fruit, spice, perfume, this bottle could have lasted for another 10+years. Out of magnum
Flight 4 (1 note)
Solid wine. Great in the glass, had all of the characteristics of an older bordeaux without the brown edging in the glass. Out of magnum
Flight 5 (2 notes)
These are always a mystery, but never cease to amaze me. The Moulins A Vent is timeless and the Chante-Pedris is history.
