Zachys Robin Hood 2010 Wine Tasting
La venue, NYC
Tasted October 20, 2010 by ews3 with 3,098 views
Introduction
A benefit tasting to support Robin Hood foundation. Zachys did a nice job of putting this on, in fact, there were so many great wines that I missed -- I wish I ha another hour or two to get further in... But I did quite well, and was impressed with the breadth and depth of the wines being shown.
As with all walkaroud tastings, it was nice being able to compare so many wines, but I will need to revisit many of these in order to get a better impression...

Buttery with nice grapefruit flavors. Nice tingly acidity on the mid palate. Med finish.
Red

Red
2008 Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley
91 points
really enjoyed this. raspberry and sour cherry, but med(+) acid is the most noticeable characteristic. fruit carries into the finish. gets a little sharp 20s into a beautiful finish -- a little like reflux, which detracts.

lighter fruit profile -- was surprised at the contrast with the 07 Napanook.
Red
Red
2007 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Champans

Nice. Very young and fruit forward right now. Raspberry dominates, but there is some tobacco coming in on the back end. Medium finish.
Red
2007 Domaine Dujac Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts
91 points
Dark fruit profile, with some "light" dark chocolate notes. Raspberry. I found the combination of flavors weird, but I liked it.
Flight 4 - 89-90 points (19 notes)
Red
2003 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Cascina Francia
90 points
overwhelming root beer notes on the attack, followed by bright red raspberry fruit. this was pleasant to drink, but did not remind me of barolo. lovely medium finish.
Red
2004 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino
90 points
fairly simple for a brunello, but quite nice. black pepper, cherry, leather, and some spicy cayenne notes that were really enjoyable. med(-) finish wishes it could linger a bit longer...
Red
2007 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
90 points
black spice dominates the flavor profile, with some steak notes behind. i did not think "fruit". some heat on med(+) finish. preferred the 06 estate to the 07 regular...
Red
2008 Domaine Saint Préfert Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve Auguste Favier
90 points
more powerful and concentrated than the regular CDP. Nice black berry dominated profile, with some sweet spice (clove?) notes. I found the tannins to be quite powerful and gripping. med(+) finish. Not a huge fan of the style, but the fruit and finish make this a very good wine.
Red
2007 Artadi Rioja Pagos Viejos
90 points
showed much more than the vinas de gain. vanilla, milk chocolate. good acidic structure. medium finish.
White - Sparkling
1998 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut
90 points
yeasts with some iodine. like the secondary notes.

89 points
chocolate covered banana. nuanced tobacco slides in on a surprising medium finish.
Red
2005 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova
89 points
this had some wonderful notes of dried flowers and sweet spice, but the underlying fruit tasted a bit underripe. med(+) finish redeems the wine, but this is not at the highs I expect from this wine. Would like to try again to back up this note.
Red
2008 Domaine Saint Préfert Châteauneuf-du-Pape
89 points
juicy profile. nice fruit flavors, but a little on the simple side.
Red
2008 Clos du Mont-Olivet Châteauneuf-du-Pape
89 points
very dark fruoit profile. somewhat simple. finish is quite light, but surprisingly lingers a bit.
White

89 points
stone fruit and stone. a little sweetness and could use more acid. shortish finish.
White - Sparkling
1995 Henriot Champagne Cuvée des Enchanteleurs Brut
89 points
extremely secondary -- surprising after the freshness of the 96 Henriot. Was surprised to like that one better.
Red
2007 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru
89 points
Fairly simple. Nice raspberry flavors, a little bit sour. Earthy med finish.
Red
2007 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Clos de La Bussière
89 points
Really nice profile, withnmore fruit and ripeness than the ruchottes. Med finish.
Flight 5 - 87-88 points (9 notes)
White
2008 Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Blanc
90 points
nice acidic profile. lychee, pear, and a hint of pomegranate.
Red
2007 Christophe Roumier Ruchottes-Chambertin
88 points
This was a difficult wine for me. There was a tremendous amount going on, with lovely intertwined flavors. But the underlying fruit did not seem ripe... It seemed like it was picked too early, with a green streak in the underlying red fruit. A little bitterness crept into the wine. Nice oak notes and interesting bramble flavors redeem this wine.
Red
2008 Remoissenet Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Grèves
88 points
Fruity but light bodied. Diluted strawberry juice.
Red
2008 David Duband Nuits St. Georges
87 points
lighter bodied than the chambolle-musigny, but with a similar cherry/raspberry profile. missing some of the earthiness. medium(-) finish.
White
2007 Domaine Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé
87 points
light lemon. very nice pure chardonnay flavor. clipped finish.
Red
2007 Maison Nicolas Perrin St. Joseph
87 points
a little bitter on the palate, this would work with food.
Red
2007 Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée
87 points
Some fruit, tart cherry. Earth is more dominant though. Simpler than the clos vougeot.
