Flight 1 (18 notes)
White - Sparkling
N.V. Michel Arnould & Fils Champagne Grand Cru Brut Réserve
92 points
Great balance. Brioche, citrus, judicious sweetness, fine mouthfeel, very long. The pinot noir speaks quite strongly here, but there is just enough chardonnay zing to keep this fresh.
White
2007 Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Les Romains
90 points
Very light, almost watery, but exceptionally nicely balanced, with faint melon and citrus complexity.
White
2004 Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet
90 points
Lots of very toasty oak, with an almost reductive funkiness that leaves this just a bit flat.
White
1999 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage Blanc Chevalier de Sterimberg
Almost honey in color. Oily, flabby, oxidized in profile. No score.
Red
1998 Domaine Anne Gros Clos Vougeot Le Grand Maupertui
88 points
Very bright fruit, with a mineral edge, just a bit thin and hot. Drink in the short term.
Red
1995 Louis Jadot Clos de la Roche
89 points
Ripe, warm, surprisingly primary but not unpleasant to sip. Drink now or hold several more years.
Red
1997 Mongeard-Mugneret Echezeaux Vieilles Vignes
A blast of Brussels sprout on the nose, earthy and green on the palate. This is either going over the hill or a slightly off bottle. Not scored.
Red
1996 Château Lynch-Bages
This bottle showed more green than previously, with a lick of harsh tannins. No score.
Red
2000 Château Gloria
88 points
A very pleasant Bordeaux for its price, not special, but fruity and showing a bit of terroir. Drink now or hold.
Red
1998 Château de la Gardine Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée des Generations Gaston Philippe
91 points
Nice peppery heat, sweet, fresh and creamy. I would hold this 4-8 years.

Red
1998 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle
Much lighter than expected, almost thin, but the profile is bright and ripe. Not scored.
Red
1985 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde
Leathery and horsey, going almost tertiary now, but still balanced and drinkable. Not scored.
Red
2001 Eric Texier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Reserve Improbable NF
Simple ripe fruit, but finely balanced. Not scored.
Red
2000 Château Pontet-Canet
No notes taken, this was showing extremely well, promising an excellent life ahead. Not scored, but probably my WOTN.
Red
1982 Château Lynch-Bages
All the qualities of a pleasant, aged Bordeaux. I would drink this relatively soon.
Red
2000 Château Lynch-Bages
Showing very young and fresh, although also a bit thin. Not sure where this will go. Not scored.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Domaine des Baumard Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru
Botrytis and quince, incredibly sweet, just enough acidity. Not scored.
