Introduction

Current Releases alongside Older Vintage Matteo Correggia wines

Flight 1 - Current Releases (7 notes)

White
2011 Matteo Correggia Roero Arneis Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Roero
89 points
Nose of lemon peel, sharp pears, apples, honey with mirrored flavor profile also offering cut grass with a crisp and cleansing finish. Well balanced and laden with plenty of body.
Red
2009 Matteo Correggia Barbera d'Alba Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba
80 points
Bright red fruit & sweet jammy aromatics. Tarry on the flabby palate, saturated dusky fruit, notes of soot flavors. Utterly disjointed.
Red
2009 Matteo Correggia Barbera d'Alba Marun Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba
89 points
Aromas of crushed gravel, cherry, cigar box and white pepper. Rich cherry, terra cotta, pine and tobacco on the back end. Polished acids with plenty of back bone and a lively finish.
Drink 2014++
Red
2006 Matteo Correggia Barbera d'Alba Marun Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba
90 points
Black and red fruit, smoke and earthly aromatics. Bigger than the '09, this was quite plush with flavors of tundra, plums, cherry, saline with great acidity to carry it through to the lengthy finish. Very polished with fine tannins.
Red
2009 Matteo Correggia Roero Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Roero
85 points
Light on it's feet offering bright aromas and flavors of silt, sharp cherry and currants. Light in body, easy drinking with a dry finish.
Red
2009 Matteo Correggia Nebbiolo d'Alba La Val Dei Preti Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Nebbiolo d'Alba
91 points
Brandied nose with soil, forest floor & mushrooms. Bright cranberry, earth, cherry, gooseberry, truffles and slate flavors. Powerful, polished and coating with a long supple finish.
Drink 2013-2020+
Red
2007 Matteo Correggia Roero Riserva Ròche d'Ampsèj Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Roero
90 points
Big and chalky in the nose along with mint and cherry. Likewise on the palate with bold chewy-cherry, loamy earth and tobacco. Effortless on the finish.
Drink 2015++

Flight 2 - Older Vintages 97-98 (5 notes)

Red
1998 Matteo Correggia Barbera d'Alba Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba
84 points
Far superior to it's infant ('09) new release. A bit weak and on the watery side for my palate. Pleasant, just underwhelming.
Red
1997 Matteo Correggia Barbera d'Alba Marun Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba
82 points
Difficult to assess beyond aroma and flavor of menthol. Faded fruit, leather and lacks substance. This doesn't appear to have improved with bottle age, but appreciate trying next to the '09.
Red
1997 Matteo Correggia Roero Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Roero
83 points
Nose of sulfur, tobacco and port. Plum, smoke, earth and spice. A bit light in weight, but hearty enough to hold up to robust foods.
Red
1997 Matteo Correggia Nebbiolo d'Alba La Val Dei Preti Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Nebbiolo d'Alba
91 points
Wet brick, cigar smoke, aniseed and cherry aromatics. Laden with minerality of wet cement, river rock and silt. Cherry and earth on the sleek hind palate with 60+ seconds on the winding finsh. Aged beautifully. Drink now-2030?
Red
1997 Matteo Correggia Roero Ròche d'Ampsèj Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Roero
87 points
A touch of a fortified nose & sulfur which blew off after 15-30 minutes to reveal soil, dried stone fruit and campfire wood. Robust on the palate with crushed rocks, cigar, earthy dried cherries and a long glossy finish. This kept improving over the course of the tasting.
