Introduction
Pre Xmas dinner. Great evening with some stunning wines. Highlights for me wre Ramonet Chevalier 2001, Cheval Blanc 19995 and Mugnier Bonnes Mares 2001.
Flight 1 - Champagne (2 notes)
White - Sparkling
1990 Pommery Champagne Cuvée Louise Brut
92 points
deepish colour some old gold. Very fresh yeasty nose, clearly some age. A lot of depth and long finish. Very good
White - Sparkling
N.V. Jacques Selosse Substance
91 points
delicate green, small mousses and bubbles. Delicate floral nose, hint of sherbert lemon. Guessed B de B. Lovely rich palate kept clean by acidity but finish slightly clipped. very good
Flight 2 - White Burgundy (2 notes)
White
2001 Domaine Ramonet Chevalier-Montrachet
96 points
Great wine and a real rarity. Light gold colour wild extravagant wacky nose, lanolin, spearmint. greta depth complexity, layers of flavour but beatifully balanced and glorious finish. Guessed Ramonet but wrongly Batard.
White
2000 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet
93 points
pale gold. Very pure classy nose, very correct, lacy effortless. Powerful, honey, butterand richness. Fine but lacked a little excitement. No decant and those with some left said it developed considerably over time in the glass.
Flight 3 - Red Burgundy and Barolo (3 notes)
Red
1997 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton-Clos du Roi
89 points
pale considrable browning. Very earthy and mineral, big burly and robust. Good length and some richness behind but not the most subtle of burgundies.
Red
1997 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche
flawed
Nose a little odd and fruit stripped out. Slight TCA.
Better on palate firm structure and some rusty fruit but sure not as it should be and surprised when identified.

Red
1996 Gaja Langhe Nebbiolo Conteisa
92 points
very deep colour. Nose extraordinarily young. Raw powwerful but with a lot of substance. Palate powerful rich and very long. International in character and lacks a sense of place. Hard to believe it was 1996 and tasted much younger. needs 10 years and it may then reveal more. For now it is a high quality bruiser.
Flight 4 - Bordeaux (2 notes)
Red
1995 Château Cheval Blanc
95 points
colour mid red with some maturity. Glorious nose, chocolate, meat , red and black berry fruits. Fabulous moutfilling complex palate, rich but firm with a long long finish. Beautiful wine.
Red
1989 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron
92 points
extraordinary colour. Almost black. Deep classic Pauillac nose big wine with fine grained tannins. Explosive on palate but not all knitted together yet. Still needs time to show its best
Flight 5 - Sauternes (1 note)
White - Sweet/Dessert
1983 Château Rieussec
93 points
Deep orange as it always is but still bright. Barley sugar and botrytis with orange peel running through to lift the nose. Sweet stilll with tremendous length and depth but finishing clean. Gorgeous Sauternes.
