Introduction

Scott was a gracious and knowledgeable host during our recent visit to Wind Gap. Really enjoyed spending some time with him chilling outside the winery in the warm CA sun. Great conversation about the Sonoma wine scene and Wind Gap wines.

Flight 1 - Whites (3 notes)

White
2012 Wind Gap Wines Trousseau Gris Fanucchi Wood Road Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
90 points
Exotic nose of tropical fruit and spice. Mineral and acid driven palate with waxy body. Medium finish. Interesting and refreshing.
White
2009 Wind Gap Wines Chardonnay Yuen James Berry/Brosseau Vineyards USA, California, Central Coast
92 points
Gorgeous nose of minerals, white fruit and stones. Palate is acid driven and awash with minerals, slate and lime notes. Long finish with delicious mineral notes. Terrific Chablis-like Chard. Excellent.
White
2011 Wind Gap Wines Pinot Gris Windsor Oaks Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Chalk Hill
88 points
Huge nose of flowers, citrus and sweet melon fruit. Palate is very dry with medium acidity. Orange peel all day on the palate.

Flight 2 - Reds (3 notes)

Red
2011 Wind Gap Wines Pinot Noir USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
92 points
Pretty and elegant nose full of cranberry and cherry with some interesting herb and stem notes. More red fruit on the palate with a generous earthy undertone of stems and herbs. Plenty of acidic cut and juiciness. Long herb and cranberry finish. Great stuff.
Red
2011 Wind Gap Wines Grenache Sceales Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley
89 points
50% whole cluster. Nose is bright with raspberry and herbs. Palate is medium bodied and echos the nose. On the simple side today with room for upside development I suppose. Smooth finish.
Red
2010 Wind Gap Wines Syrah Sonoma Coast USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
93 points
Just a knock out nose ... black and red fruit, herbs, exotic spice, black olive, black pepper and game notes. Palate is silky and elegant with medium body. More red than black fruit though their is loads of pepper and olive going on. Loved this wine. Terrific.

Flight 3 - Bonus Wines (2 notes)

Scott brought out a couple of wines from a dinner he attended the night before in SF.

Red
2011 La Clarine Farm Syrah Sumu Kaw Vineyard USA, California, Sierra Foothills
92 points
Big floral aromas and rich fruit on the nose. Palate has a medium body that belies the nose. Elegant with a touch of spritz (?). Pepper, spice and black fruit. Long herby, chewy finish.
Red
2010 Jemrose Syrah Cardiac Hill Bennett Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Bennett Valley
93 points
Inky black in appearance - very different from other wines it the line up. Nose explodes. Full throttle with smoky, herby, toasty, meaty, rich black fruit. Palate is rich and more fruit driven than the Wind Gap syrah. Loads of black fruit, olive, pepper and smoked meat. Long smoky finish. While larger scaled than the other more elegant wines, this is by no means a fruit monster. Well balanced and complex.
