Flight 1 - Pre Roses (double blind) (2 notes)

Rosé
2003 Château St Martin de la Garrigue Coteaux du Languedoc Rosé Cuvée Tradition France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Coteaux du Languedoc
80 points
Older nose, touch sherried. Sherry palate, wood, furniture wax, over the hill. Others enjoyed it.
Rosé
2010 Château La Roque Pic St. Loup Rosé France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Pic St. Loup
88 points
Sweet strawberry nose, grenache-y. Interesting mix of sweet and tart strawberries, nice acidity, long tart finish. Thought this was a California rose of grenache.

Flight 2 - 1997 Brunellos & Chianti Riservas (single blind) (8 notes)

Red
1997 Pian Delle Vigne (Antinori) Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
89 points
Sweet plum nose, touch of leather, very nice. Fresh blackberries and plums. Light to medium bodied with nice medium acidity. Youthful, very little tannin. Finishes just a tad hot, otherwise really nice. (my 3rd, group's 4th)
Red
1997 Villa Poggio Salvi Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
90 points
Baked black cherries and dried flowers on the nose. Nice weight in the mouth, ripe blackberry fruit with a hint of herbs. Medium to full bodied, medium acidity, moderate tannins. Still youthful with the most structure of the flight. Should continue to improve. (my 2nd, group's 5th)
Red
1997 Spalletti Chianti Rùfina Riserva Poggio Reale Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Rùfina
92 points
Delicate nose of raspberries and strawberries. Light bodied with medium acidity. Pretty and red fruited in the mouth with hints of earth and tea. An outlier in this flight, understated and lovely. (my 1st, group's 6th)
Red
1997 Vigna Vecchia Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
88 points
My pour had chunky sediment but it stayed at the bottom of my glass. Started a bit funky, with some horsey brett, but it wasn't offensive. Spicy in the mouth, slightly bretty with charcoal and an earthy finish. Moderate+ tannins, still needs time. (my 4th, group's 1st)
Red
1997 Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de' Frescobaldi) Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Ripe al Convento Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
85 points
Sweet, kirsch nose. Sweet raspberry syrup and jam, a bit of heat and some baking spice on the finish. Overripe for my palate. Not my style but others liked it. (my 6th, group's 3rd)
Red
1997 Barone Ricasoli Chianti Classico Castello di Brolio Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
No score b/c my pour had lots of fine sediment that didn't settle and made it difficult to evaluate. Dark raspberry nose, touch of spicy brett. Sweet black cherries, kirsch, chewy tannins. (my 7th, group's 2nd)
Red
1997 Uccelliera Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
flawed
Sweet, acetone nose. Acetone palate, flawed. (my 8th, group's 8th)
Red
1997 Casa Emma Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
86 points
Muddled, warm, baked black fruit. Round, black plum juice palate. Simple but not terrible. Others thought it was oxidized. (my 5th, group's 7th)
