Flight 1 (3 notes)

White - Sparkling
1996 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne
95 points
I haven't had this wine in several years and find it still to be incredibly fresh and powerful with great energy. Wow.
White
2001 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Not even close to the freshness of a bottle opened this summer, this was somewhat madeirized and muted. Got even less interesting quickly.
White
1992 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
flawed
Worth taking this chance when we are tasting a bunch of BBM, but alas, this was DOA.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White
1999 Louis Jadot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs-Gain Domaine Gagey France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Also past its peak, this was thankfully served "too cold" which made it seem less mature. Lots of ripe fruit clearly coming through, but very advanced.
White
2000 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
90 points
Slightly mature with good balance of earth and orchard fruit. Best to drink up in the next few years.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

White
2006 Domaine Ramonet Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
93 points
Very similar to another bottle from earlier this year. Ripe peach aromas and flavors with good balance, even without the expected edge and acidity from more classic vintages. An extroverted wine that avoids being too flamboyant.
White
2006 Etienne Sauzet Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
92 points
Very interesting wine, I never would have thought this from Sauzet (or 2006) if served blind. Reserved and even slightly backward start. Big and powerful fruit but not ultra ripe and forward at all. Firmly structured. Needs more time.

Flight 4 (5 notes)

Red
1971 Robert Sarrau Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
88 points
Served blind. Very good and surprisingly elegant villages level wine from a producer I didn't know. Meaty, well textured with still lively fruit in the center.
Red
1999 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Domaine Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
90 points
All black fruit, coming across as somewhere between backward and rustic. Reticent from the start, never fully forthcoming. Probably better in 5+ years.
Red
1999 Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Ripe fruit aromas with good combination of earth, dark chocolate and some toasty spice. New oak still a bit pronounced giving a modern style. Very good fruit, moderate spice, ok finesse. Good now.

Red
1996 Domaine Prieuré Roch Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
85 points
Some of the people at dinner liked this a lot, others didn't. Very perfumed with good spice but also a slightly murky character that came across as less than pristine.
Red
2001 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
93 points
I haven't had this wine since shortly after release and it is very impressive today. Opened slowly, so really requiring some attention and time. Slightly floral, lots of nuance and textures. Not a powerhouse, but very elegant.

Flight 5 (3 notes)

Red
2002 Domaine Pierre Gelin Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
91 points
Red and black fruit aromas with some subtle earth and spice. Starts off subtle, picks up more power towards middle and end. Good balance.
Red
1999 Pierre Damoy Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
89 points
Black fruit aromas and flavors with good concentration and power. Somewhat firm, making it come across as slightly drying, while also detracting from overall balance.
Red
1999 Domaine Bart Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
86 points
Very nice with a big, ripe character. Not particularly "Gevrey" to me. Also simpler with less finesse than I would expect from Grand Cru in a good vintage.
