Annual Wine Group Summer Event

Siggy & Jenny's Place, Mpls, MN

Introduction

There was a crap ton of wines and in this format it was barely possible to remember what you drank let alone take any detailed notes, but I'll throw down on the ones I tasted, though there were probably as many I didn't . There were about 32 attending and the the menu was catered paella which was very tasty indeed. The company as always was stimulating and the wines were up to the task as well. Thanks to Steve and Jenny for hosting and Craig for coordinating this always fun summer bash!!

Flight 1 (21 notes)

Totally agree with Chablis28; this was a wonderful bottle that was drinking with elegance and class. I'm amazed that this was the first vintage. Thanks for sharing Craig. I'm not sure we'll get the opportunity again!
White
2011 Domaine des Malandes Chablis 1er Cru Montmains France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

Small pour; i thought this was better than previous notes. Good acid and nice citrus, clean and fresh if a tad young.
Rosé
2009 Sine Qua Non Packin' Rosy USA, California, Central Coast

Medium orange-red color. Very, very interesting wine...blind I would have thought this was a light bodied pinot or the like. There was a remarkable intensity of flavor, big and bold, strawberry, ripe berry, intense, spice, etc. Very different, but very tasty as well. 91+pts.
Red
2005 Bernard Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

Got the very last small pour of this, just enough to make me want more. Very nice, coming into its own, deep, good dark fruit. Balanced and nice earth.
Red
2008 Bethel Heights Pinot Noir Carter Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills

This was just delightful. Drank alongside the '05 Dugat Py GC VV and it was quite worthy. Elegant and silky texture with old world character. 91+pts.
Red
2001 Bodegas Emilio Moro Ribera del Duero Malleolus Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
As they sometimes say, this was a hot mess.
White
1996 R. López de Heredia Rioja Blanco Reserva Viña Tondonia Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
92 points
Every bit as good as the previous bottle and very consistent notes. Thoroughly enjoyable. 92+pts.
White - Off-dry
2001 Weingut Josef Leitz Rüdesheimer Berg Schloßberg Riesling Spätlese Germany, Rheingau

Light-medium gold color. I definitely had this out of sequence given the level of sweetness. This would have fit in great with the Sauternes at the end. Great fruit, but very sweet, Auslese to BA really. Loved the peach and apricot but needed some more acid to quench. 90+ to 91pts.
Red
2004 Tenuta La Fuga Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
89 points
No notes, small pour, pretty good. It did not suck and it was "not the worst Brunello ever" as in a previous note.

Just got a small pour of this; really fresh and good balance, crisp, apple, peach. 90-91pts.
Rosé
2013 Graci Etna Rosato Italy, Sicily, Etna DOC

Dry earth, loamy mineral, nice fruit.
White - Sparkling
2002 Champagne Collet Champagne Brut Millésimé France, Champagne

Had this after the Legras and it just come off flat and uninteresting for me. It was decent enough, but...
Red
2003 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Dark red color. Decanted for 2 hours. Drank one tasting pour. I thought this showed well, nice dry earth/forest floor, cherry, black cherry, lightly floral, leather. The palate was medium bodied, fairly elegant, spice, dark cherry, earth, mineral, silky texture and medium plus finish, round moderate tannins. A little wood spice on the finish which i think will integrate further. In the window now and has a good long future. 91(+)pts.
White
2009 Domaine Naudet Sancerre France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre

Light gold color. Drank 1 glass. I thoroughly enjoyed this and frankly could have sat outside and downed the bottle with pleasure. Showing every bit as well as the last bottle with great acid, crisp and fresh shell minerals, citrus and lychee. Nummy. Sorry it's gone.
Red
2005 Fattoria La Gerla Rosso di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino

just had a taste, solid, good value too.
White - Sparkling
N.V. R. & L. Legras Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

Got the last pour, tasty, apple, pear, consistent with previous bottles.
Red
2011 Antica Terra Pinot Noir Botanica USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

One of my favorites of the night. I didn't take any notes, but it was showing well with another year of bottle age. Classy stuff. 92+ to 93pts.
Red
2005 Marqués de Cáceres Rioja Gaudium Gran Vino Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
90 points
My memory is big and black fruited, spices, wood, and young, but well made. Needs a couple years. 90(+)pts.
White
2012 Dirty and Rowdy Sémillon USA, California, Napa Valley, Yountville
90 points
Crisp and fresh, nice citrus notes. Clean and not over done.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2002 Château Tirecul La Gravière Monbazillac Cuvée Madame France, Southwest France, Dordogne, Monbazillac
93 points
Splendid bottle, from 500ml. Dark gold color. Great apricot, honey, spiced, floral, great body and acid to match, very long finish. Great stuff.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2005 Château Guiraud France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
92 points
Oddly, I just had this 3 days before from 375ml. This bottle from 750ml seemed much younger in evolution. White it had the intensity on the palate and the substance was there, the roundness and body had yet to evolve. flavor profile was consistent though. Needs more time from 750ml to really appreciate fully.
