Introduction

A fun day at the lake with friends. Steak, burgers, hot dogs and the works.
Had several cocktails that were really good, too.

Flight 1 (5 notes)

White
2007 Weingut Pfeffingen Ungsteiner Herrenberg Riesling Spätlese trocken Germany, Pfalz
87 points
Pretty light green color; floral, lots of lime, some sweet fruit in the nose and up front on the palate, slight slate then other minerals come into play, very sour lime and green fruit on the very dry finish, good wine but not the most noble.
Red
2011 G.D. Vajra Langhe Rosso Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
90 points
Once again this wine over delivers, it really reminds me of Italy, the fresh sweet fruit, plum, cherry, smooth texture, floral qualities, anise, slight bitterness, juicy, easy drinking, a very nice option on a warm Summer day at the lake.
Red
2004 Podere Rocche dei Manzoni Barolo Vigna d'la Roul Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Really nice wine drinking near peak (though others are very youthful), this had lots of dried red cherry, roses, and cedar; the palate showed good texture but drying tannin that made it not the best pairing on a warm Summer day.
Red
2010 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
91 points
Much leaner and more balanced compared to the lush and exotic '09 version of this, very firm and focused with lots of tart crunchy red fruit, sour cherry, c ranberry, and slightly underripe strawberry, was having trouble getting much nuance out of the nose but the palate was firm showing mineral texture and acidic backbone, mid was solid too; very young and one dimensional compared to what it should be in at least 5 more years; 91+.
White
2012 Flametree Chardonnay Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
Another good showing for this more Burgundian styled Aussie, great crisp acid, golden apple and lemon, medium weight but solid mid palate, nice focus; really well done.

Closing

Drinking the Riesling on the boat seemed automatic somehow, like it was almost made for that very reason.
Most of the wines were easy drinking and well suited for the warm day except for the Manzoni which was a bit too serious and dry.
All in all a great day.
