Introduction
Eight of us gathered for a great night with splendid wines at a hot new spot in Mpls.
Flight 1 (13 notes)
White - Sparkling
N.V. Guy Charlemagne Champagne Brut Classic
90 points
Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over an hour. This was good, a complex mix of citrus on the nose and palate with pink grapefruit, lemon-lime, apple skin and lees. The palate is fairly tart with chalky minerality in the mid and a bit sharper character on the finish. Good depth and persistence. Ironically, i enjoyed this more than the Cristal tonight - but that's another story. 90+pts.
White - Sparkling
1999 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut
Light-medium gold color. Drank 1 glass over 90 minutes. I gotta say I might have been more excited to drink this tonight than anything else when I saw it get posted. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, this bottle just didn't show. Nowhere near my previous experience with this. Some thought it was mildly corked and somewhat oxidized. I didn't think so on the nose, and at first I thought the nose seemed quite promising with some nice toasty, leesy , bread dough aromas, but that seemed to fade off. The palate was just ok for me, kind of bland and just your run of the mill N/V decent Champagne. There was something in the mid palate and finish that wasn't right...not overt corkiness, but that may have been the issue. Clearly this was not a correct bottle. In fact, I enjoyed the Charlemagne more than this tonight. Sad, for such a great bottle.
White
2000 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc
89 points
Medium deep gold color. Drank 1 glass over an hour. This was ok, certainly not what I had hoped for. A recently acquired bottle, domaine direct and cellared there until now. The glowing reviews didn't come to fruition. It wasn't bad, and I did enjoy it, but it wasn't to the level of expectation. It drank a little like an older white Lopez wine with a little of that laqueur-like, varnish quality on the palate. There was some nice lemon, a bit of lemon pledge edge to it, apple, filberts, lighter minerality, it was fairly round and had some nice texture, full bodied, mildly oxidative. 89(+?)pts.
White
2001 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Tessons Clos de Mon Plaisir
93 points
Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over an hour. This was so fresh and alive, just a vibrant and focused bottle. No sign of age. The nose bursts with tangerine, meyer lemon, stone fruits, and melon with light white flower notes. The palate is beautiful with flinty minerality, consistent fruit, lifted, medium body and long invigorating finish. Wonderful! 93+pts.
White
2013 Parparoussis Sideritis The Gifts of Dionysos
88 points
Pale straw color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. This was pleasant, fresh with bright citrus, light, simple. A nice drinker. 87+ to 88pts.
Red
1996 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes
93 points
Medium dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 90 minutes. This was singing from the start. Pretty nose with cherry, spice, light wood, savory, and little mint emerges later. The palate just resonates and shows nice depth, bright cherry, berry, currants, mineral, earth and soil, long finish, well integrated. I would think this is at peak. 93+ to 94pts.
Red
2001 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Clos Vougeot
94 points
Dark red color. PNP; milked 1 glass over 90 minutes. Same bottle as Chablis28 that he so kindly shared. I totally agree this has a fantastic nose. Wonderfully earthy and mushroomy with red fruit and lovely wood spice notes. The palate is elegant and pure, great finesse to the stylish red fruits of cherry and raspberry, wow, the spices and mushrooms are rocking, iron, mineral, and cinnamon notes that all flow seamlessly into the long finish. Nice tannins that are silky and integrated. A winner. 94+pts.

Red
2001 Michel Magnien Charmes-Chambertin
93 points
Dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 90 minutes. Another wine that was beautiful tonight. In fact this flight of wines ('96 Ponsot CdlR, '01 Meo-Camuzet Clos Vougeot, and this) was just plain splendid. The nose has the most perfume tonight, floral, lovely, fine leather, earth, spiced. This has a richer texture and more body than the others, plush, full bodied, black cherry, dark plum, some earth, spices. 92+ to 93pts.

Red
2006 Louis Jadot Echezeaux
91 points
Very dark red color. This had a slow-O then a quick double decant; drank glass over an hour. The nose is pretty tight and just doesn't want to reveal much, brooding dark fruit. The palate is also youthful, more power, a mix of dark red and black fruits, wood, mineral, full body, a bit angular on the finish. I suspect this will start to shine in a couple more years. 91(+)pts.
Red
2009 Domaine Joseph Roty Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champs-Chenys
90 points
Dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 45 minutes. Nice, but young, bright ripe berry fruit, medium body, firm medium grained tannins. Should evolve nicely - needs 3+ years. 90(+)pts.

Red
2000 Château Prieuré-Lichine
93 points
Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour. Since I've had this for the third time now over the last 6 months, I won't bore you with details. I agree with Chablis28's evaluation as well. This started out in second gear and then gradually shifted into overdrive with the nose eventually exploding into that classic Margaux floral perfume. Gorgeous!
White - Off-dry
2007 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese
94 points
Light medium gold color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. I didn't take any notes on this last night, but fortunately there was a little bit left today to revisit. Wow, is this good. Bright fruit on the nose with a chiseled mineral note and bright white flowers and modest fusil. The palate has that silken texture with just a bit of oiliness and the fruit, well the fruit just rocks, great purity, pear, nectarine, apple, so tart and tangy to handle the sweetness, fusil, and brilliant minerality, long and luxurious. A classic JJP WSA! Man I'm glad there's more of these.
