Introduction

Great opportunity to taste and learn.

Flight 1 - Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé (5 notes)

Red
2013 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Black berries on nose and palate. Sweet, juicy fruit that retains excellent brightness. Silky tannins and an elegant structure with subtle minerally textures I really enjoy, all coming together in a finish that seems to be dancing on your tongue. A very good vintage for this wine, with easily 90+ point potential.
Red
2013 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Black berries once again, also slightly sweet but more dense and with a slightly firm, austere start. Finished with even greater concentration, more energy. Needs at least 5 more years in the cellar. Very good.
Red
2013 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
95 points
Red and black berries on nose and palate with more fruit delicacy vs the Villages and 1er. Spice remains mostly in the background for now. Incredible textural support from silky tannins, balanced acidity and great minerality. Great length with beguiling concentration. My favorite of the horizontal for now, certainly for the next 5+ years and perhaps even for the long-term.
Red
2013 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Black cherry on nose and palate. Meaty and powerful with spice and dried herbs. Burly for now, seemingly with the most tannins of the lineup. Very good concentration.
Red
2013 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
Much like the 1er in profile but with "more" of everything. Deeper, richer, longer, and brooding just a little to start. Picks up an elegant weightlessness in the middle that I greatly enjoy, finishing with exceptional length and finesse. Great potential.

Flight 2 - Bonneau du Martray (5 notes)

White
2014 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
My 2nd time tasting (1st was yesterday). Bright Apple with some peach and lemon. Doesn't show any harm for the hail (other than the loss of so much of the crop). Moderate concentration and one of the more elegant vintages in the vertical. Another charmer in the making.
White
2012 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Floral start with cross-section of apple aromas and flavors, subltle spice. Elegant textures. Moderate intensity.

Floral start with Apple and peach. Ripe with great concentration, great weight and wonderful balance. Some slightly sweet spice in background. Super fun now with lots of room for more pleasure over the next few decades. A great vintage for Martray.

2008 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
I tasted this from two different bottles tonight, and this note is based on the better bottle. Sweet orchard fruit with spice and floral hints good concentration, nicely balanced right now. In its peak window, but with the material to hold well for many years+.

The other bottle showed less of everything and the sweetness was more pronounced.

2006 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Martray picked a week earlier than most in 2006, which clearly helped a lot. Dense and ripe, but with with good energy. Fun now, like many 2006s, but with the structure to last another decade.
