Red
2005 Domaine Robert Groffier Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

Beautiful bouquet already, best aromatics of the evening. Ripe red cherry fruit with fresh minerality. Powerful but well rounded. Very pretty and expressive but also well built. Curious spices intermittent with strong fruit. Second best wine of the night and was actually edged out by the 2002 Groffier Les Sentiers.
Red
2002 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Gorgeous nose, actually superior to that on the '05 Groffier Bonnes Mares enjoyed beforehand. Soft and ethereal but with plenty of fruit power lurking in the background. Elegant and highly expressive. Very flavourful and deeply complex on the palate with a great finish as well. Wine of the night.
Red
2001 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
91 points
Highly expressive nose with good complexity. Quite leafy and stemmy on top of maturing black cherry and currant fruit. Lovely on the palate too. Big and expansive fruit but with good earth developing as well. Better than some other Lambrays tried out in the past and a pleasant surprise.

1993 Domaine Bruno Clair Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

Savoury and a little bready. Dark with some coffee grinds. Palate is better than the nose suggests but has higher tannin that would be preferable. Good acid and good finish. A little uncertain as to whether to take now or wait out for a few more years...
Red
2005 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaumonts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
90 points
Nice nose, a touch green but clearly very juicy. Big and rich on the palate. Great acid provides for a big finish. The fruit strikes and expands very nicely. Severe tannins on it at this point. Probably put this away for some time.
Red
1990 Domaine Jean Gros Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Clos des Réas France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
91 points
Minty and ethereal nose with cool cherry and some menthol. Some leafy green and stem notes linger. Palate seems to come and go quickly, providing some ripeness but also leather fruit. Showing its 26 years of age here for sure.
Red
1995 Sylvie Esmonin (Michel et Fille) Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

A little further advanced than one would hope for out of '95. Very leathery fruit and also maderizing somewhat. Sadly this bottle just isn't on tonight.
Red
2005 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Roncières France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
91 points
Great aromatics already: quite rustic but also perfumed. Drinks nicely right now bit also showing potential. A little big and green on the palate just now, but seems like a good bottle to keep around.
Red
2002 Nicolas Potel Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
90 points
Fairly expressive aromatics: a little leafy on top of ripening red cherry and cranberry. Nose is prettier than the palate. Palate is nicely integrated and makes for enjoyable drinking right now.
Red
1997 Chauvenet-Chopin Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Rustic aromatics with a bit of spice. Getting very soft. Palate makes for easy / soft drinking and is beginning to weaken somewhat. Take this now.
