Introduction

Pizza night with everyone bringing a pizza from somewhere they fancy. The wine theme was old word with none of the big "B" wines allowed.

I just had a small pour of this and by the time I got it, it was pretty warm so that may have been a factor. Seemed a bit foamy and not real focused tonight, lacked something.

Pale pink color. drank 2 small pours over 30 minutes or so. I really liked this and it seemed to really grow in the glass. Very nice fruit, strawberry, in particular but a there's other red fruit there too. Very fresh and lively on the palate, a nice spice note toward the end and the requisite minerality too. I loved the perfumy floral and berry aromas that build on the nose too. Really good stuff.
Red
2010 Arianna Occhipinti Il Frappato Italy, Sicily, Terre Siciliane

Dark red color. PNP, drank 1+ glass over 90 minutes. Very nice old world character, dried earth, cherry, spice on the nose. The palate is medium bodied, spiced cherry, darker red fruit, red plum, nice acid, and fine tannin, just a bit of alcohol shows. I thought this did improve over the hour, though some thought previous bottles were better. 90+pts.
Red
2014 Château Thivin Côte de Brouilly France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Côte de Brouilly

Medium red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 40 minutes. Fairly high toned nose, nice red fruit, rather spicy now, bright, a bit herbaceous especially on the palate. Good, but rather youthful.

Medium red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 45 minutes. Enjoyable as always, great pizza wine. Cherry, a hint of anise on the nose too, wood, wood spices; the palate follows through, medium plus body, wood, a mix of darker and lighter red fruits, cherry.

Extreme VA, very vegetal.

This was vinegar and VA.

DArk red color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 2 hours. This got progressively better through the night, I had intended to decant, but that just didn't work out. There's a nice touch of earth here, pleasant cigar aromas, a little scorched earth and smoke, dark red berry fruits. The palate near full bodied, round yet still with a leaner energy, dark red fruits, firm but very fine grained tannins, medium plus finish. Boy, there's a lot going on here and it is drinking well now already, though this shows quite a bit of potential for aging. I was liking this a lot. 91+pts.
Red
2011 Ramos Pinto Douro Duas Quintas Reserva Portugal, Douro

Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 40 minutes. This kinda grew on me after a bit. Very good with baked cherry and baked plum, a little savory too, ends a bit spicy and oaked, firm grippy tannins and it is just on the edge with the alcohol, but it holds together pretty well. Could use some time.
