Flight 1 - Champagne to Start (1 note)

White - Sparkling
2002 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année France, Champagne

Lots of ripe orchard fruit with prominent amount of bready and yeasty notes. Good already now, but I find that toasty character more pronounced than usual at this early stage in its evolution. consistent with most prior notes.

Tasted blind in flight. Lemon and lemon drop nose and palate. Slightly riper aromas vs flavors, while overall very clean, long and elegant. Very good now. My 4th favorite of the tasting, the group's #3.

2014 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Tasted blind in Chablis flight. Green apple and lemon zest. Moderate weight with minerality and good acidity on finish. Clearly bright and youthful, but I would think this best from now through the next few years. My 5th favorite of the blind tasting, the group's 4th.

2008 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
95 points
Tasted blind in Chablis tasting. Opulent and ripe peach, lemon custard aromas with lots of flower and some honey comb. Nowhere nearly as approachable on palate, but with firm textures, even while showing oystershell and saline textures. Nowhere near ready, but great potential 2020 forward. My favorite wine of the tasting, but I wasn't surprised it was near the group's bottom given its firm textures tonight

2014 Patrick Piuze Chablis Grand Cru Bougros France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
91 points
Tasted blind in Chablis flight. Nicely floral with lemon peel, Meyer lemon, green apple. Moderate depth and concentration with subtle spice. Probably better in another year or three.

2009 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

From magnum. Tasted blind in Chablis flight. Noticeably ripe, good concentration. Maturing flavors and aromas, even if clearly not very old. I thought this seemed sadly too Fevre when tasted blind. My 8th favorite of the blind tasting, group's #5.

2014 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Côte Bouguerots France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Tasted blind in Chablis tasting. Very bright and tart, clearly too young for near-term maximized pleasure. Lemon and lime flesh and zest. Very good concentration, very long finish. Better in a few years. Another wine I fully expected to enjoy more than the group. My #2 wine tonight, the group's #6.

Tasted blind in Chablis flight. Slightly oxidized aromas, more oxidized flavors.

2011 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

Tasted blind in Chablis flight. Ever-so-slightly reductive aromas, making me think this Raveneau. Ripe fruit still clear on nose, more clear on palate with moderate weight but almost perfect balance. My 3rd favorite wine tonight, the group's #2.
White
2013 Domaine Servin Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
91 points
Tasted blind in Chablis flight. Apple and peach with some sweet spice. Ripe and lush in an manner uncharacteristic for Chablis. I liked this but ranked it close to the middle (#6 of 9) because it didn't have the typicity, but I should have realized it was showing 2013 character. I liked this more than the other Servin 2013s I tasted in March at Grands Jours. Group's favorite wine of the flight.

Flight 3 - Bonus Wines with Dinner and After Dinner (6 notes)

2009 Louis Jadot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
91 points
Very enticing floral start with tropical fruit and ripe orchard fruit hints, but clearly enough freshness and energy. Some intriguing Asian spice. Very good now.
White
2008 Domaine & Selection Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos Clotilde Davenne France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
90 points
Bright fruit, nicely fresh for its age and producer. Moderate weight and depth. Very good now.
Red
1994 Château Cos d'Estournel France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
87 points
N ice black fruit with moderate weight and ripeness, but more assertive structure. Good for now.
Red
2005 Camille Giroud Chapelle-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru
92 points
Ripe combination of red and black cherry aromas with spice and roast meat. Starts with more red fruit, then finishes more black. Wonderful nose, very enticing flavors to start, but then slightly more firm middle to finish. Good now, better in 5 years, and probably even better in 10.
Red
2011 Sine Qua Non Syrah Patine Eleven Confessions Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
95 points
A wonderful late night bottle opening. Perfumed start with black plum and mirabelle. Sweet flavors with baking spice and licorice. Very long, incredibly balanced throughout. An early drinking beauty.
