Introduction

First time trying Margaux's Table. Nice ambiance, good food and a great option for no corkage - super service, very friendly, low key.

Flight 1 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
2008 Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut Vintage France, Champagne
93 points
Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 20 minutes. Vert enticing both on the nose and palate. This is nicely toasted and still brings plenty of fruit with bright green apple and pear with hints of citrus in the background. The palate feels medium full bodied with nice depth, a brightness to the green fruits and subtle citrus flavors, a brisk clean minerality and medium plus finish. This had it all going quite nicely. I'll keep my eye open for these.

White
2008 Jean et Sébastien Dauvissat Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
92 points
Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. This was the first time having this vintage. I had been impressed with the '07 version, and this was not disappointing either. I get the earthiness and distinct seashore aromas and flavors intensely on the nose and palate, there's an oily texture, lemon, lemon oil, some bright apple notes, good lift and persistence. Very good.

White
2012 Talley Vineyards Chardonnay Rincon Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Arroyo Grande Valley
90 points
Light medium gold color. Drank 1 glass over 20 minutes. Moderate toasted oak barrels on the nose, apple, vanilla and spices. The palate is fairly robust and round, but not buttery or viscous, medium full body, a bit creamy and spicy. The fruit is fairly nice and the oak is probably what I would consider medium plus.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
2000 Château Prieuré-Lichine France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
92 points
Very dark red/purple color. Slow-O for 3 hours, drank 1+ glass over an hour. Very pretty nose right from the start, with a gorgeous perfume of potpourri, dried flowers, spices, and dried cedar, more red fruits, cherry with red berries. The palate has nice fruit, the ripeness of the vintage showing, black cherry, red cherry, and more subtle cassis notes. Medium full bodied with a nice texture, tannins that are round, silky, and melding well. A very nicely balanced wine showing well. This too got better over the hour, but it really was firing from the start.
Red
2000 Château du Tertre France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
91 points
Very dark red/purple color. Slow-O for 45 minutes, drank 1+ glass over an hour. Drank this next to the '00 Prieure Lichine. This was much tighter out of the gate on the nose, fuzzy cedar, black fruited, oak, cassis, blackberry. The palate is also black fruited, blackberry, cassis, tar, more earthy, mildly herbal, full bodied, medium plus finish, more tannic. Very good, got better in glass for sure. Will benefit from some additional air. 91 to 91+pts.

Red
2009 Corliss Estates Cabernet Sauvignon USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
89 points
Very dark purple red color. Unknown prep, drank 1 glass over an hour. Very big, cassis, alcohol, oak, blackberry liqueur. The palate is fairly inky, full bodied, blackberry syrup, cassis, borderline candied fruit, lots of spice and pepper on the finish with some heat. Not a style I really enjoy, just too over the top. I'm sure fans of the style will like this much more.
Red
2012 Prisoner Wine Company The Prisoner USA, California, Napa Valley
87 points
Very dark red color. Followed 1 glass over an hour. Big, syrupy, sweet blackberries, very herbaceous. Very OTT. All things I don't appreciate.

Flight 5 (1 note)

White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Château de Malle France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
90 points
Medium dark gold color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. Honey, honeysuckle, orange marmalade, apricot on the nose. The palate is lighter, more medium bodied, somewhat lacking in texture, baked apricot, orange marmalade, honey, caramel, spice, and a medium finish. 90+pts.

Flight 6 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
2009 Nyetimber Blanc de Blancs United Kingdom, England, Sussex, West Sussex
90 points
Pale gold color. Drank 1+ glass over an hour. Very typical nose, certainly could pass for Champagne blind. Yeast, green fruits, apple skin, and chalk minerals with hints of green flowers.. The palate follows closely with medium body, yeast, chalk, and tart green apple and apple skin. Very solid representation. Feels youthful; will try to give the next bottle a couple of years.
