Red
2008 Lucia Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands

Tasted double blind, Easily identified as Cali Pinot, then even got SLH (from multiple choice options). Red cherry with some cherry cola and sweet spice. Good textures and structure kept this youthful and interesting.

2008 Roar Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands

Tasted double blind, Easily identified as Cali Pinot, then even got SLH (from multiple choice options). Rich red and black cherry with very good weight. Slightly sweeter than I would prefer, which detracted from any nuance this wine might have shown. came across as rich, but slightly too fat and one-dimensional. Also time to drink up.

1983 Trimbach Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile France, Alsace

Mature apple and pear with savory spice in spades. petrol hints and stony minerality. Very long, wonderfully balanced.
Red
2000 Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot Vintner Select Wind Whistle Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley
87 points
Tasted double blind. Lots of acidity and tannins with bold black fruit, almost rustic. I thought this was Old World given its reasonably fierce tannic finish. Hard for me to sense when/ where this will be very enjoyable, but others liked it more than I did today.
White
2004 Didier Dagueneau Blanc Fumé de Pouilly France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé
Pleasant, but well past its peak drinking window.

Reductive, even though open at least one hour. Grassy aromas with apple start-to-finish. Very good density, but perhaps too young/ backward, but I wasn't getting much nuance or charm.

Open, decanted several hours before I tasted. Fully mature red cherry with spice hints, roasted meat, mushroom and leather. Slightly tired, moderate length. I was told this had mediocre fill level.

2013 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Les Arboises Brézé France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur

Tasted double blind. Very tart cherry and cranberry. Very firm with lots of acidity. Moderate ripeness. I had trouble identifying much here, other than it being a young French wine.

2007 Domaine Dominique Mugneret Echezeaux En Orveaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Tasted double blind. Clearly Pinot Noir, but this seemed very ripe and slightly tired. Mature red cherry aromas and flavors with at least as much earth. Moderate weight and length. At first I didn't think it from Burgundy, and then thought it Villages level. Not nearly as interesting as the last bottle from a year ago (from the same source).

2011 Maison Albert Bichot Chablis Grand Cru Moutonne Domaine Long-Depaquit France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Served double blind to the tasting group. Rich apple, lemon and lemon peel. Perhaps slightly richer than you would expect from Chablis, but also very long and energetic with plenty of mineral textures. Very good now, with plenty of life going forward.

2014 Maison Albert Bichot Chablis Grand Cru Moutonne Domaine Long-Depaquit France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Served just after the 2011 vintage. More concentrated and powerful, but not quite in perfect harmony today. So much dry extract and potential here, but this needs a few more years to soften and jell. I think it has 93-94 point potential, but patience is required, 2022-.

1988 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Côte-Rôtie Les Jumelles France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

Tasted double blind. Aromas had me deciding between Northern Rhone and Burgundy, but palate more clearly Rhone. Black cherry, cracked black pepper, bacon fat and anise. Moderately ripe or powerful, while very well balanced and texturally interesting. Very good length.

Very accessible and open, but surprisingly lighter styled for Hermitage blanc. Good balance, moderate weight.

Tasted double blind alongside the 1982. Meaty black fruit with savory spice throughout. Dense and clearly ripe, but wonderful balance. Knowing the pair were from the same place, I initially (mistakenly) thought Burgundy.

Tasted double blind alongside the 1998. Meaty black fruit with savory spice throughout. Red and black cherry with leather and meat braised slowly with mushroom. Very charming. Knowing the pair were from the same place, I initially (mistakenly) thought Burgundy.

2011 Claude Dugat Griotte-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru

Tasted double blind. Red and black cherry nose and palate with some floral hints along with wild berry hints. New oak is perfectly absorbed, and this is completely harmonious start-to-finish, even if just moderate weight for Grand Cru from Gevrey. Enticing right now, lots of upside, 2020-.

Served double blind to the tasting group. Apple, fresh peach, some dried apricot with plenty of spice and floral notes, especially on the nose. Very ripe, nicely mature, and probably no/ little upside from here. Best to drink by 2020-ish.
