Flight 1 - Gigondas Flight (6 notes)

Red
2012 La Maison Guyot Gigondas Les Asters France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas
Very similar showing as before, open and ready, plenty of character and complexity, the most open and classic of the night, with extended airtime this developed some soy dried fruit and cedar notes.
Red
2012 Château du Trignon Gigondas France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas
Similar notes as before, the most compact of the night, fresh taut and tense while still displaying good drinkability; very nice.
Red
2014 Domaine des Bosquets Gigondas France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas
Lots of chocolate on the nose with dark fruit yet lighter body and fresh acid along with very tart red and darker fruit; good over the next few years though not my favorite.

Red
2014 Château de Saint Cosme Gigondas France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas
The beefiest Gigondas of the night this really shows a black pepper and meaty character, dark raspberry and plum, some whole cluster grain to the tannin, overall very nice balance, an overachiever for the vintage.

Red
2015 Château de Saint Cosme Gigondas France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas
Was expecting a larger wine than the '14 but this wasn't the case, some reduction on the nose, a mix of white and black pepper, a nice freshness to the fruit, very purple but nice lift, very fine tannin, juicy and tasty and not the muscle bound overripe wine I expected.

Red
2011 Domaine du Grand Tinel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Alexis Establet France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Served blind; a see through crimson, color distinctly different from the other Gigondas; a ripe yet youthful nose of raspberry, figs, kirsch; very sappy on the palate displaying ripe fruit for the vintage but also an old vine weight and richness, warm stones, lots of fig and ripe red fruit, kirsh, finishing with the bitter baby aspirin note of Grenache; very tasty.

Flight 2 - Champagne (2 notes)

because 6 bottles of red wasn't enough for 3 people...

White - Sparkling
N.V. Vilmart & Cie Champagne Premier Cru Grand Cellier Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
Loads of green apple, richer and more luxurious than most, almost to a Special Club level, hinting at almonds, lots of mineral; good.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Pierre Péters Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Cuvée de Réserve France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Loved the light ethereal nose, all upper register green apple lemon lime and chalk, brisk acid, very refreshing, lots of verve; delicious.
