Flight 1 (3 notes)

Red
2007 Poppy Pinot Noir USA, California, Central Coast, Monterey County
raspberry fruit and a modest hand at some french oak. lightly expressing dark earth. tangy spice. is there RS in here??? nice and easy. All sourced fruit??? Ben calls Monterey as usually with a tomato component, but not here.
Red
2006 Mount Eden Vineyards Pinot Noir USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
black cherry and delicate spice in the nose. definite rock in there. more mineral driven and not to dark of a profile on the palate.
Red
2006 Calera Pinot Noir Mills Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Mount Harlan
ferments on the stems. nose of the sous-bois. toasted brown rice. livelier acid than the Mount Eden 06 Estate. green notes on the palate. not really so fruit driven. Red raspberry fruit comes off on the finish.

Flight 2 (3 notes)

Red
2008 Folk Machine Pinot Noir USA, California, Central Coast, Monterey County
shows a dark cloudy rose tone. remember the post-fementation maceration converstation??? light thistle to the nose, hints of kerosene on the palate, red raspberry fruit but also some crab apple in there too.
Red
2007 Paraiso Vineyards Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
fog influence for sure. 1st to plant in the highlands.
spice/wood notes is really clonal selection. not so aromatic, the nose is being difficult. tight, not so tight, but not giving up much more than structure. roast to the finish.
Red
2005 Morgan Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
sous bois and that light element of deep sweetness. light body. almost a blackberry fruit profile. brown leaf on the nose. full level of fruit to the morgan. great in the mouth.
