This was an enjoyable glass of robust champagne with full body and a long finish. I'm struggling between calling this "complex" vs. "interesting". Complex to me means multi-faceted and enjoyable. Interesting means multi-faceted, but leaves room for something to be off-base, which might include a flaw. This had oxidized qualities. It wasn't off, but seemed to be too far progressed for a 1999. This was thought-provoking and I kept asking for another pour, but I'm not sure this was fantastic. Sherry, nutty and citrus, with apple qualities showing with time in the glass. I'd have this again, but probably out of curiousity more than pleasure.

Dark fruit, earth driven nose, something plastic-y in the mid-palate and significant acidity. With some time in the glass, spices appeared on the nose in abundance. This was served pop and pour and gave immediate pleasure. This was the wine of the night.

This was light, compared to the fullness of the Pape Clement. I picked up a little sulphur on the nose and a good amount of tannins on the palate. I much preferred the Pape Clement, which reached out and grabbed my attention versus the Lagrange, which seemed to wait patiently for me to notice it as the wallflower in the corner. This got no votes for first or second place.

Pop and pour. The nose gave up virtually nothing. Medium bodied and a chalky midpalate. Not a lot of pleasure today. I brought this. :(

Good golly this was fantastic. Big, expressive nose. Dark fruit. Slight alcohol on the back of the nose that blew off. Fantastic right out of the glass. Blackberries and dark sweet fruit. Like all of these wines, they need more time but this gave the most pleasure tonight. My wine of the night.

Sweeter than the rest on the table in a very pleasurable way. Full bodied, dark fruits, since it was last, it had the longest decant, possibly 1 1/2 hours. Lovely. One vote for WOTN.
