This was a big young Barolo with a nice mix of red and black fruits. The tannins were very fine and there was a nice hint of anise on the finish. This wine needs another 5 years to be at its best, but despite its more traditional style, it was very pleasant now.

this was much better than the last bottle. Nice Gevrey earthiness with a great nose of red and black fruits. Nice fruit on palate with good acidity, nice weight and mouthfeel. This bottle just tasted fresher than the last. This wine is still on the upswing.

A very pleasant surprise. The nose started with a little funk and was a little stewed. After about 30 minutes, that blew off, leaving a nice freshness with ripe plum and black cherry on the nose. The palate showed nice acidity with very ripe dark fruits with plum, black cherry and some ripe blueberry. There was a little secondary starting around the edges. This wine appears to be much fresher than the last time I tasted it. I look forward to opening another in a year or two.

Smoked meat on the nose with sweet strawberry and wet earth flavors. Not a lot of acid and a little oxidation on the nose. Very enjoyable, but only for another 5 years.

i loved this wine. It had a wonderful fruit driven, dark fruit nose leading to dark fruit, and wet earth flavors on the palate. Didn't have the intensity of the '07 Roumier, but was much more elegant and pure.

A fascinating wine. The wine starts with a dusty chocolate note on the nose. The palate has tremendous depth of flavors with lots of dark fruit and a touch of "orange dreamcicle" that is classic Musigny. But, where does the chocolate come from? It was pleasant but unusual. I subtracted 2 points for the uncharacteristic nuance.

Tremendous intensity and nice acidity and balance. Great mineral, oyster shell, lemon-lime flavors. Very ripe citrus fruit. Love this wine!

I'm no longer wondering. This wine is coming around. The searing acidity of 1996 has faded, leaving behind a beautifully balanced wine with lovely cherry, and a little of the classic Dujac cinnamon spice. This is a really beautiful wine.

A baby, loaded with dark fruits and baking spice. Tremendous concentration, with exceedingly long finish and great balance. Will need another 5-10 years to reach its apogee.

Tremendous flavors of dark fruits, iron and baking spice. This wine has put on some weight since the last time I tried it. Nice secondary flavors of mushrooms as accents add to the complexity. I would have liked to spend more time with this wine over the evening.

Nice honeyed apple and pear flavors. Was a very enjoyable drink, but I expected more from this vineyard and vintage. Seemed a bit past its prime and lacked some of the acidity and energy one would expect of a grand cry at this age. Both bottles were very consistent.

Some reduction on the nose mixed with jammy dark fruits on the palate. The wine was a tad overripe and lacked the balance of tannin and acid. Overall, a decent '97, but not a great wine and marginally enjoyable. The flaws of the vintage could not be overcome.

Excellent Volnay. Great balance, good tannin and acidity with a tremendous amount of solid material. Wonderful mix of red cherry and dark fruits, with a touch of smoke. Still mostly primary, medium to full bodied. Just at the beginning of its prime drinking window. May be even better in a couple of years. This is a very pleasant surprise.

Nice Gevrey earthiness with a pleasant mouthfeel and nice palate weight. Dark fruit flavors with good acidity. Would have liked a little more fruit in the flavor profile. The earthiness was dominant.

A nice village wine. Has shed its Pinot baby fat. Surprisingly acidic for an '07. Needs another year or two. Nice silky texture with dark fruit flavors. More Chambolle in texture than flavor profile.

Very pretty wine, showing nice clean red and black fruits, nice acidity (without being overly so) and nice mineral characteristics. Surprisingly, drinking quite well without seeming to be pre-mature. This wine is still on the upswing but will be hard to keep my hands off.

Fantastic village wine. Lovely mixture of black and red fruit with a touch of orange peel. Nice spice medium finish. Just beginning to go secondary. Still on the upswing and will gain more weight over the next 5 years. A great village wine.

This wine started off as very bretty. After an hour in decanter, a lovely mature burgundy with flavors of back cherry mixed with forget floor and mushrooms emerged. The Bret was still a bit overwhelming, but was slowly moving to the background. I would have liked more time, but I couldn't keep the family at dinner any longer. Admittedly, the score is a bit generous based upon an projection of where the wine was going.

Opened with an initial bit of reduction on the nose. This blew off and there was a nice moderately mature burgundy with some sour cherry and mushroom flavors. Unfortunately, this was a bit bretty and I found that distracting from the enjoyment.

Drank with Christmas dinner of mushroom crusted tenderloin. The wine was open for 4 hours before dinner and was still a bit of a tannic beast. Starting to gain a little weight. There was a nice core of dark fruits, mushrooms and Forest floor. Drank side by side with the '93 and '97. The least pleasurable of the 3.

A classic Gevrey, with a great nose of cherry and wet earth. Flavors of cherry and mineral. Lots of power and depth. This was still a young wine with some time to go. A nice contrast with the '99 Dujac Combottes. This was more of a classic Gevrey wine with Grand Cru potential. I really liked this one.

Great power and dark fruit. A little disjointed when compared to the near-perfectly balanced 2002. More stuffing than the 98, but not as enjoyable. I will let this sit a while longer. It's a baby and it needs to integrate.

Started at tasting table at Knightsbridge and finished at dinner 2 hours later. The wine was truly at its apogee. There were some beginning secondary flavors, but the dominant characteristic was the intense minerallity. Behind the mineral there was a nice core of dark fruits and spice. This was a lovely Vaucrains and showed how good an NSG can be at its best.

What a pleasant upside surprise. This wine was screaming with nice weight, great fruit and fine silky tannins. Reference Chambolle flavors with some orange peel, mixed with baking spice. If this is any indication, Mugnier's big 3 are absolutely fantastic in '99. This wine was truly the work of a master.

Lovely nose. A bit muddled but resolved into a very powerful wine with nice Vosne spice and black fruits. Not as focused as I wold expect from a great vintage. The wine is still on the up slope and will age nicely. It will never be a wow wine, but will be a pleasant albeit unremarkable wine.

I have had this wine twice and I hated it. It wasn't flawed, but tasted like a modern-style Rhone rather than a burgundy. There was good fruit and tons of power. It just lacked any sort of balance or finesse. I have some Rhone-loving friends that would have loved this.

Some reduction on the nose, with great sappy dark fruit flavors. This is a real powerhouse. Drank with the '96. A great contrast of the great nose of the '96 that was a little light on the palate versus the 2000 that showed very little on the nose and was surprisingly primary and powerful on the palate. Would like to make this same comparison in another 5-7 years.

This wine is in that show-me phase. It is awkward and shows the typical muddled (not stewed) nose that was typical in many 1998's when they were younger. It is making the transition from primary to secondary adding to its adolescent awkwardness. The palate showed a lot more than the nose with lots of bright red raspberries and lots of power. This should mature into a lovely grand cru burgundy. Needless to say I was one who disagreed with Burgundy Al.

Beautiful clean Vosne Fruit with wonderful spice and black fruits. A little reduction on the nose that opened to reveal a classic Vosne nose of Asian spice. Great depth of fruit. Delicious now with nice palate weight, but shows no secondary flavors yet. Will be tough not to open this for a while, but this is only getting better.

Popped and pour at Knightsbridge with Dimitri from Champy. Some reduction on the nose that began to blow off after a half hour to reveal some wonderful Vosne spice. Tremendous depth of fruit on the palate with flavors of spicy black cherry and other black fruits. Many layers underneath that kept revealing themselves as the wine sat in the glass. The palate finished with nice polished tannins and a finish that lasted almost a minute. This a a great wine that is continuing to improve.

What a pleasant surprise. Tasted up against another 2007 Rugiens from Michel Gaunoux. This was clearly superior. A wonderful nose of red fruits. Great depth of fruit. Good balance and acidity. A little heavy on the palate. Easy to mistake for a Gevrey. Over the next few years it may become a bit stewy, but great drinking right now.

Nice balance, good red fruit flavors. Has some structure to age for a few more years. Touch of volatile acidity that was a bit distracting. The fear is that this acidic streak will dominate the wine as the flavors become more secondary.

Absolutely fantastic. Deep rich red and black fruit flavors with nice spice and great acid and balance. Wonderful baking spice on the nose. Layer upon layer of fruit and spice. Truly the iron fist in the velvet glove that is Musigny. While delicious today, this wine has decades of life left. At least five years before the next bottle.

Lots of power. A little funky on the nose at first. Making transition to secondary. This wine had a great mix of cherry and baking spice. Wonderful Chambolle character. Tasted side by side with 2000. The 2000 was more giving initially, but this wine was much more structured and built to age. This wine has a long road in front of it. I wouldn't open another bottle for a good 5-10 years.

Nice soft Volnay character with lovely red cherry fruit balance with nice mineral component and fine tannins. High acid gave a bit of a lean note to the wine with the young Pinot baby fat starting to fade away. Very lovely and will enjoy coming back to this wine in a year or two.
