Very stemmy, not bad after it settled down
  • the godfather commented:

9/11/21, 1:40 PM - I associate dill pickle with American oak barrels. For the most part don’t enjoy any amount of stems as tastes very green and takes years to integrate. That said, DRC and Dujac use stems, and happy to drink either.

Beach 2021; 8/7/2021-8/14/2021 (Kiawah Island, SC): (From Magnum) WS WOTY, but for me simply a good pour. All ripe round red fruit and fleshy Grenache. Classic CdP notes without being too meaty, more tobacco and pepper notes, tart dusty cherry, plum, fig, raisin kinda all dried fruit. Additional air and decanting didn't seem to help as it started to fall apart a bit. Good, but I guess for the hype I was let down. Past peak? Funky spot?

Really good bottle for this wine, definitely prefer the cinque however

Absolutely stunning and everything I want in a white wine

This bottle was smoking good. Such a vibrant, dry Pinot Noir based Champagne with tight and focused bubbles. Serious length on the finish. Time to reload on this food friendly Champagne when the price is right.

Attractive nose - smells like a classic and traditionally made red Burgundy. Unfortunately, the palate has no sizzle whatsoever. Linear, thin and undistinguished. Goes to show you why these wines are so cheap compared to market for the same plots.

with significant air this wine gave nothing, so far not a fan of this vintage.

Super feminine for a Barolo, olive and red fruit dominate, young obviously but very open, great stuff
  • the godfather commented:

9/23/18, 3:08 PM - It was so open, I did not. I think it’s best to judge upon opening.

Nose has dirt and mushrooms and tumeric.

Palate has significant sourness. Like a sour beer made out of grape juice. Cranberry and lingonberry.

This was a strange bottle. The nose was weird, I thought it was VA perhaps. The palate was not showing much - no real fruit and a bit of dirtiness. Could have been an off bottle or just shut down. I loved the 2006, too bad about this bottle.

Wow!!! Once again an incredible showing of Bartolo 2008. It's extremely complex, quintessential Barolo with aromatics of red fruits, dried fruits, crushed flowers, tobacco, tar and many other things. It's medium-full bodied, has pretty high but super-silky tannin, and medium-high acidity. It's again super aromatic but totally weightless. Great and complex finish. I have had this wine a few times and it never showed anything less than spctacular. Quintessential Traditional Barolo.
  • the godfather commented:

9/25/15, 4:58 PM - this was the best young barolo I had ever tasted when it was released, may have to crack another one soon.

Lunch 5/2015: Corked. Very badly. The one sip I could bear to take revealed lovely texture and balance, and even some fruit flavours that were strong enough to survive the TCA. But the nose was totally compromised.
