This was an interesting bottle. I shared with a few wine friends and we all came to the same conclusion. We initially decanted and had a 1/4 glass for first impressions. The fruit was nice and there was an interesting hint of moss or truffle...mixed with earth (I call it dust bunnies), dark berries, and cocoa. We decided to let the wine open up a little and came back to it 90 minutes later. Talk about a change. It had opened up and had become considerably more balanced. I highly suggest anyone trying the 2012 show some restraint and give it a solid 90 minute decant. Overall, I give it a 92, with some upside in 3-5 years. If you want an interesting comparison, try tasting along side of the 2011 Fleur Cardinale. The differences are not slight whatsoever.

After tasting the '11, I tried the better vintage of '10. My son an I did a blind tasting against new and old world wines (all cab, with one Spanish Rioja). This one was absolutely horrible, with serious VA problems. The nose smelled of acetone, and the wine had hints of gasoline. Likely a bottle problem; will try again.

    1/5/15, 2:48 AM - Hello,

I'm very sorry to read that you had problems with a bottle of Fleur Cardinale 2010. Taking into account the descriptors you use to describe the wine, which are very precise (acetone, gasoline), I can assure you that the problem did not come from the wine itself, blind-tasted or not. Cork? Bad conditions of transport / storage (not because of you, but because of the seller for example)? One thing is sure: something has completely ruined our work, and so your tasting. Once again, I'm very sad / sorry for that, and wish you better luck next time.

    Best regards,

    Bien cordialement,
