Community Tasting Notes 8

April 9, 2020 - The note by Antonio Galloni from June 2011 is still valid today:

„The 2008 Marche Rosso Kurni is quite unusual in this vintage. The wine comes across as rather compact in its fruit, which accentuates the sweetness of the fruit and the French oak. In a blind tasting the 2008 could easily be mistaken for a sweet red dessert wine. Let's hope 2008 turns out be an anomaly for one of the Marche's most famous reds.”

Almost 10 years later, the wine is closer to a red sweet wine than to KURNI from other vintages. The wine possesses an insane concentration, the fruit is characterized by raisins and sultanas, black forest fruits and nougat. Unfortunately, the concentrate lacks acidity and thus also balance. I am not sure if the sweetness comes exclusively from the extract or if a few grams of residual sugar play a role. Since I generally appreciate the KURNI, one can say today that this wine has remained the exception. KURNI is always a concentrated Montepulciano, but with a very own and unique combination of concentration, fruit, acidity and fine melting - with harmony and beautiful balance. Unfortunately not in 2008.

March 2, 2019 - Not my cup of tea. Too sweet, chewy and fruity for my liking but Eddie loved it. Suffered from being drunk after a 2004 Camartino which was heaven.

April 17, 2016 - Well rounded, flavorful, bold, balanced Italian wine. Leg longs, soft finish, low acidity, and meaty flavor. Perfecto with meat, had with lamb. Very good wine, ready to drink now!

July 30, 2015 - En gnutta flyktiga syror som får mig att tänka på Piemonte. Men kraftigare än så. Riktigt bra, befäster Marche som en oerhört underskattad region.

March 22, 2015 - dark, inky red. Jammy fruit, lots of oak, and very sweet. Palate-fatiguing wine. Hard to drink with food. I couldn't even finish the bottle. Too much of everything. Overly heavy. Overpriced for what it is.
