January 21, 2015 - What's not to like? Although for the price today, I just think 1990 Burgundy and Rhones offer a more complex experience... Yes, this was so smooth... Maybe I didn't open it long enough before we drank it. We did decant it... But I would never pay the price today for this! Thank goodness had the foresight years ago to buy a couple of cases!

January 18, 2015 - 375ml. A miss (this case has been hit or miss).

January 13, 2015 - perfect time to drink this gem with our Colorado rack of lamb. Possessing gobs of cassis and blackberries with some licorice on the side. Only one more bottle left. Sigh!

  • Peliot Likes this wine: (97 points)

December 31, 2014 - Sensational bdx. Dark purple color. Dark fruit and cigar box. Full bodied and replete. Intense flavor with a stinging and slightly lifted finish. Complexity/minerality would merit a higher score, but this wine is killer.

December 19, 2014 - sweet fruit with toasted wood, precision....perfection. drink now, why wait?

(Cheval Blanc) The Cheval was a touch weedy and wafery at first, a bit oily a la some of its best vintages.  It put on some weight and became quite concentrated, and despite a touch of mustiness to the palate at first, ultimately it was delicious.

(Cheval Blanc) There was one more Bordeaux on this starry night, a 1990 Cheval Blanc, whose nose was full of meaty, wintry red fruits and hints of gingerbread. There is always this hint of game and wild grass to the ’90 Cheval, and I say that in a positive way. The palate was classic all the way around, rich and red, tasty yet still somewhat shy and reserved. This was a meaty, long and regal wine that will be enjoyable for decades to come (96).

(Cheval Blanc) The 1990 had a deep, sexy nose full of green olives and wintergreen. It had this open, waify edge to its black fruit and lots of garden aromas as well. The palate was so lush, long and tender with its cascading waterfall of fruit flavors. It was so elegant, possessing garden, forest, and olive flavors. Incredibly complex, Serena also ‘loved it’

Rockss and Fruit

(Cheval Blanc) This was showing very young on this particular night but has loads of potential. Actually was a bit hot to start off with. Incredibly rich and decadent with great concentration but a touch awkward at this stage. Really started to strut it's stuff towards the end of the evening and the resemblance to the '82 became more clear. The nut thing started to develop on the nose and there was some exotic spice. This was great but if anybody has any I would give it 5-10 more years.

A Decade of 1960s Burgundies at Bouley and the Greatest Wine I Have Ever Had, 5/2/2005 95+ points

(Cheval Blancs) still a baby in terms of its development yet somewhat approachable on this night. The monstrous alcohol and tannin of bottles past were more under control, and its shy, sexy red fruit qualities seemed to be coming out of their shell. The earth, mineral, wintergreen and Cab Franc kink were all there, and Carl and Rudy were really feeling the wine. I think it will be a great wine, but patience is required, and it is far from a state of opulence, remaining in a state more suited for wine intellectuals than actual drinkers

A Mega 1990 Bordeaux Tasting with Clive, 3/21/2005 DQ points

(Cheval Blanc) was unfortunately corked. You could see the incredible texture of the wine behind that, but it was corked enough to disqualify. As Clive eloquently put it, .this wine usually gives one a hard-on for a fortnight, but not tonight.. Well said, Clive, well said

Hanging with Mr. Parker and Mr. Squires in Baltimore and D.C, 2/21/2005 97 points

(Cheval Blanc) had a stunning nose that was young and powerful yet flirtatious. There was both ripeness and spine, and seductive red fruit that was both glazed and lush, along with sexy nut, Asian sweetness, leather, meat, light pepper and all kinds of spice, collectively allspice in that it had all of them covered and was too complex to label individually. The palate was awesome and surprisingly approachable with finesse and style. There was elegance, breed and a long finish to go with its great flavors. Rudy found it .fat and exotic.
