Community Tasting Notes 2

September 17, 2011 - PUKE! This is the worst wine I've had this year... possibly ever. It was on sale at Safeway from $15 to $5. How bad can a $5 wine be right? After all, even $2 Charles Shaw is serviceable. Well the Firefly is so bad that it actually trigger a gag reaction. So I poured it into a decanter and let it sit for a couple of hours. Unfortunately it didn't make a difference.

The nose has bright cherries and smoky meat which I thought was very nice. In the mouth it's just horrible. Everything flavor had a plastic wrap around it like those wine in box but instead of mylar the taste is much more petrol and nauseous. The mid pallet had a moldy fruit taste to it, like when you left a half eat apple on the counter during the day and accidentally bit into it in the middle the night. PUKE.

I'd mush rather spend the $5 on a 2 bottles of 2-Buck Chuck.

January 6, 2011 - Popped and poured. Nondescript sour red fruit, artificial-seeming levels of acid, and no tannin to speak of. Tastes manipulated. I remember having basic Firefly syrahs a few years ago that I enjoyed at the price, but this is not very good.
