August 11, 2017 - Shooting myself in the foot for opening this now. First day was muted and shut down. Day two opened up beautifully to elegant blackberries, slight vanilla, and cinnamon. This has potential to hit 96-97 in the next few years.

July 19, 2017 - DONT OPEN THIS YET! This is the first of my 6 bottles and I went for it partly as everyone said it's drinking well. Well yes it is. It's from Napa!! It's totally delicious already. But honestly let this rest. I did a 6 hour decant and at the moment it needs more - like 12 hours or more. Taste is classic Napa. Others have decribed it better than I can but it really is fab - cassis and red fruit and great acidity for balance and just totally lovely - I just think this will get better. For me open this after 2020. And I say that as someone who enjoys the primary fruit (I don't love aged Bordeaux for example) but this just needs a few more years to become slightly more integrated. This will give more joy with more time. But did I mention it's lovely!

June 30, 2017 - the finish is a little tannic. The acidity is a bit high. Expected a bit more from a Stag's Leap district hillside Cab. Would I buy more....yes.
The 2009, was always a little lacking. Come on Doug, you know this. But i would continue to purchase this wine for my cellar.

May 27, 2017 - This wine was rocking tonight. Mouthwatering aromas of kirsch, cassis, macerated raspberries, wet soil, and herbs followed by a rich palate of morello cherries, sarsaparilla, balsamic, and vanillin oak. Mouth-coating yet with enough acidity to make you want to come back for more. Shafer HSS is one of my favorite wines, and this bottle certainly did not disappoint.

May 24, 2017 - Great. Popped and poured. Nice from the start but really got rolling about an hour in. Drink now in my opinion as this is quite nice
