February 6, 2024 - Picked up 3 of these at auction back in November after blowing through my original 3 bottles....

I decanted this bottle for 5 hours prior to CT'er sastewart and wife arriving for our very first meet up and enjoyed over 2+ hours more. 5-6 hours should have been enough, given how the previous bottles reacted. I think this bottle may have needed more watching...maybe 4 hours was enough? In any event, it drank well, but not 95-97 well. Predominantly dark red/black fruited, with a definite herbal component underneath. It's smooth, it's integrated with the airtime after being tight at the pnp, and it's good, but maybe just a 94 tonight? Will be interesting to see how the next few bottles play out. I'll need to watch the airtime closer next bottle......great meetup with our new CT friends!

November 4, 2023 - Notes as on prior bottles. Needs every bit of 5-6+ hours of air to shine. Just a beautiful wine. With the proper airtime, this is rich, deep layered dark red/black fruit. It's balanced with well rounded tannins and backing acidity. Feels like it should cost $200 more......never fails to amaze me how this one is so underestimated.

October 5, 2023 - This wine is drinking on all cylinders. I gave it a 98 because it's just really perfect. You could drink it all night. The texture is polished, the fruit is sweet and exotic, and the pallet is smooth and full. You really couldn't ask for more. I gave him a 98 because I think that over the next couple years it could get bigger. However, don't hesitate to open this up now as it really is exceptional. I drank it opposite a 2008 Howell Mountain Abrue and this was the WOTN.

July 23, 2023 - One off a couple of years ago from the big box wine store and my red contribution to the dinner with my sis, A_M et al. On the nose and palate, red and black plums, black currants, mixed dark berries and a lesser note of black cherries, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, asphalt, exotic spice and a bit of oak. Dark maroon, full bodied, thick legs. Potent tannins and medium++ acidity still with a degree of separateness, especially off the pour, a bit of heat which blew off after an hour or so of air. VG++ complexity, intensity and persistence. This had a surprisingly intense molten core off the pour, even as you could taste the underlying quality of the fruit, and it improved and balanced steadily during the 3.5 hours we aerated it and now on night #2. Fulsome though this wine is, there’s something, between the blend (which includes 16.5% merlot and tiny amounts of CF and PV) and the structure that gives it, to me at least, more of an Old World feel, and made it even better as a match for my grilled Wagyu ribeyes than as a standalone, although it was solid there, too. This feels at least as likely to improve as decline over the next few years, and while the secondary notes will likely become more prominent, if that’s your jam, as it is often mine, that won’t be a bad thing. I’ve unsuccessfully bid on several lots of this since I purchased this bottle; this motivates me to keep trying. A solid WOTN among the reds for me. 95-96+

January 22, 2023 - Five hour decant. Deep dark ruby core, with a slightly rusty rim. Pomegranate, plum, honeycomb, and cinnamon. Smooth, dry palate. Firm, medium intensity tannins on the longish finish.

This has aged beautifully. Supplied by Mark1NPT and was wine of the night for most of us. My notes don’t do this justice. I rarely say things like this, but my ‘16 may need five years to hit prime time. :(
