Community Tasting Notes 21

December 24, 2022 - Nice - a solid Marsannay. 10 years down the road from the last bottle, this has developed at glacier pace. Definitely less primary, but with secondary flavours just beginning to creep out. I really liked the nose with its lovely mix of masculine and feminine aromas - with wafts of strawberries and dried flowers, along with notes of fragrant earth and smoky wood spice, and just a hint of meatiness starting to show up. The palate was markedly bright and fresh for a 2009, with a juiciness belying its ripe strawberry and darker black cherry notes. There was a touch of Marsannay’s rusticity and toughness in the way this was structure, with firm boned tannins leading the wine into an ever so slightly truncated, dryer finish. Otherwise, this was very pleasant and a great pairing with Shabu Shabu.

December 25, 2018 - Pretty much as several years ago. Perhaps a tad smoother as far as integration. Seems it is now about set for development.

June 4, 2016 - Served with grilled lamb chops, roasted potatoes, greens. Decanted for 1 hour. Deep translucent red in glass. Nice nose--wood, earth, rich red fruit/aged fruit, some floral elements developed with time, but darker & earthier foundation remains forefront. More of same on palate, moderate balanced tannin, nice acidity. Quite full & rich. Not an especially subtle wine, but quite good. PAUL S provided excellent notes. I am glad I have a couple more bottles as I think this will get better with yet more time, given the development from 2012 to present.

May 10, 2016 - Wow, this is really good. Soft, structured, balanced, long... lacking the complexity and concentration for a higher score. I didn't like this the previous time I tried it but it has improved considerably. Full of dark, brambly fruit, leather, blood, orange peal and funk. Great acid, light tannin, tons of mineral, clean finish. This is really fresh... really good. Nice with a hunk of steelhead trout. The best red Burgundy I've had in some time (Disclaimer: I don't drink much red Burgundy) and great PQR.

July 26, 2015 - Really enjoyable. Light and crisp but with an overlay of red fruit. The fruit gave depth to the wines balanced structure.
