February 22, 2015 - Dark, inky wine - sits very black in the glass. Dense aromas (?) fig, prune, dark chocolate and tobacco. Acids were fairly tame, as this is a little aged for its intents. Rich and round on the palate, with silty tannin. Doesn't have the tell-tale balsamic and volcanic notes of Campanian Aglianico, but the is Molise - opposite coast and not grown in the side of a volcano. All in all, fun and very drinkable.

April 23, 2014 - Opened two hours before and decanted. Needs the time. Old world Italian.

May 26, 2012 - Slow-O one hour, served double-blind over the following 2 hours. Dark ruby toward purple core, slight signs of age. Prunes, charcoal, cherry juice and dark chocolate on the nose and (medium-bodied) palate. This screamed Italy, with its deep well of acids, but I did not focus on the grape enough to guess a variety. By the one hour mark, this transitioned from restrained, enjoyable to candied, and flabby. Overall, very enjoyable and once it was revealed I was pleasantly surprised, especially so given the price-point. Drink thru 2014, 13,5% abv. At ~ $15, I would likely be a buyer, but I would not go out of my way.

July 17, 2011 - Maybe a bad bottle. The color is quite dull dark and smell more like vinegar. Tasted quite acidic, spicy and tannic. Will try after a day or so.

May 15, 2011 - Paired with Chicken Pesto. PnP through Vinturi. Seemed a bit off at first. Thirty minutes and showing more backbone. Will finish on Monday and give overall impression then.

March 5, 2011 - Licorice, cherry compote, dark spice, light tar and mushroom notes; good acidity in a rich, Italianate body; tart orange peel and a slight tarry finish. Lots going on here for not a big price.

February 1, 2011 - Drank a glass with dinner of pasta and cauliflower. Good but a little lacking in the fruit department and a slightly bitter finish. For a few more dollars the 2006 Terra di Vento Petrale is much better. For the same price the Grimaldi Dolcetto is much better.
