November 26, 2014 - Medium amber color. Mature riesling nose: cocoanut, apple, peach, caramel, freesia, cooked barley, fusel nuance. On arrival, medium acidity and apple juice texture, that Goldtropchen balance between delicacy and richness. In the mouth, this stands wonderfully balanced age-wise, still loaded with apple and peach fruit and carrying the secondary flavors from age in equal stead. Medium finish. Bottles #11 and #12 of twelve, with our family Thanksgiving dinner, early style !
August 16, 2014 - Medium straw, gold tints. Nose is quite developed, smoky minerals, ripe apple. Light bodied, medium sweetness, oily texture, peach and ripe apple, smoky hints, balanced acidity on the good length finish. Balanced, but not particularly complex and lacking "spark". Still drinkable, even enjoyable, but I preferred this when it was younger and fresher.
August 4, 2014 - I had one bottle of this last year that seemed to be getting a little dark and dreary, but this one was much more energetic and precise while still having a deep tone and a more developed profile. It's a golden Goldtropfchen! Most of the time when a spatlese is getting this deep and brassy it seems to lose a lot of its sharpness but that is not the case here. This offers fruit that has dessert-wine lusciousness to it with a crispness and crackling texture that's remarkably vibrant for a wine a dozen years along.
June 20, 2014 - Medium yellow. Consistent with other recent bottles, glossy with moderate sweetness. This bottle was dominated by peach rather than orchard fruit. A touch of honey and after several hours, more secondary Riesling notes emerge. Good slate finish. While the acidity here does not thrill, the pure fruit is attractive, and it is just about fully mature.
September 7, 2013 - As fresh and delicious as the bottle tasted early this year. Only the barest hint of fusel secondary aromas. More spiced golden delicious apple than stone fruit with a definite botrytised note. Glossy feel, moderate sweetness, excellent back end soil. This is in a fine place for full enjoyment.
January 14, 2013 - Medium yellow. A riot of fruit aromas-in turn, peach, tangerine, and perhaps the most lingering was ripe yellow apple. Glossy feel, indeed fat for a Mosel wine. More Auslese than Spatlese sweetness. A top note of honey, some back end acidity to cleanse the palate. Who needs structure, though, when the fruit is so succulent and delicious? This just glided down with Thai food.
September 24, 2011 - Very good. Sweet, but well balanced by the acidity. Pairs well with Maytag Blue Cheese.
December 31, 2010 - Pale gold. Nose initially slightly subdued, opened as it warmed to reveal slightly honeyed peach and a pronounced minerally, slightly petrolly, edge. Medium to medium/sweet on the palate, light but with that lovely slightly oily, smooth texture, peachy, notes of apple and cream, refined with good acidity on a long, minerally finish. Lovely.
December 3, 2010 - Pale golden color. Cork broke and crumbled, so filtered through venturi-mesh. Peach and pineapple and honey on the nose, with a hint of something else, perhaps tea. Not a petrol scent. Peach nectar took precedence on the palate, but fresh and well balanced with acidity. Long finish. Good complement to nouvelle Thai: lobster curry and chicken massaman, from Origin
June 27, 2010 - Yellow gold color, lots of peaches and a touch of honey in the nose. The peaches continue on the palate, like drinking the juice from a can of peaches in lite syrup, very sweet and cloying. Thankfully there was enought acidity and mineral notes making it somewhat palatable. This wine wanted to be a dessert wine and I wanted it to be an aperitif. Way too sweet and cloying for my taste, maybe an off bottle, so I will no rate.
