May 18, 2020 - Surprisingly dark garnet color. Decant 3h. Impressive nos of sour cherry, tea, herbs and spices and some iron. On the palate a bit prominent acidity but all in all very good wine. I fear this could be dominated by the acidity in a few years.

March 13, 2018 - Excellent sangiovese; this actually seemed denser and more compacted than when I last tried it! The nose is just pure sangiovese; lots of red berry fruits, fennel, tobacco, mint, floral notes, leather, forest floor, and a minerality that actually reminds me of Chambolle; the palate has more robust tannins than I recall and incredibly vibrant acidity; this absolutely needs food as otherwise I could see it coming across as a bit harsh, but with a nice bolognese this was fabulous. I think this should drink well for another 5 years easily based on this bottle and potentially longer

January 27, 2018 - This wine is in a nice place. Elegant, lifted, bright, classic Montevertine red cheery notes with cedar and spice. I think this is a relatively forward vintage, so in a very good place to drink. Maybe I am biased because I love these wines when they are at peak, and this one may have peaked earlier than others and the altitude of the peak might not be as high as other vintages. FWIW, I had a '12 Pian di Ciampolo earlier this month that was perhaps a bigger framed wine, even a bit chewy. I just think that this is in a perfectly lovely place right now, hard to resist!

November 11, 2016 - My very vague recollection is that this was no great shakes as a vintage but the wine certainly doesn't suffer for it. To the contrary, I find the extra touch of restraint very appealing. Quite aromatic and full-flavored; leaves a notably velvety palate impression although there is a bit of tannin in the background. Fine, in a distinctly classy way.
