April 27, 2024 - Fine wine, great vintage, Cru classé Niveau, longer finish, typical CabSauv flavour...
April 15, 2024 - Opened and double decanted for ~4 hours. Paired with filet.
Very enjoyable. Fruit definitely in the background at this point. Well integrated throughout with flavors of olive, earth, spices, and leather. Drink now.
March 11, 2024 - Blueberry, violets, leather; smooth, silky, long, graceful, though a little dull and a little thin, but at least moderately pleasing nonetheless
February 3, 2024 - Drink this now. It's so good. Will it get better? Who cares, drink it now. Fruit is fading to the background, earth, pepper, spice, herbs, and rose dominate. Well-balanced and textured with medium tannins and medium+ acid remaining. The 2010s continue to impress. Drink it!
December 9, 2023 - From a bottle bought recently at retail. Deep and dark with just a small hint of aging in the color. On PnP, an absolute mass of cassis and blackberries on the deep nose and palate with loads of ripe tannins, the fine acidity that often marks the vintage, and some tertiary notes that came and went after time in the glass. A bit better on the nose than the palate for now because of the tannins, which are hiding the fruit a bit on the back end and shortening the finish. I decanted the rest of the bottle for an hour, and air time definitely helped. It was better nearer room temperature than cellar temperature. The score is for the decanted portion. This wine must have been on the brute squad in its youth and still has many, many years ahead of it, I’m sure, but with an hour of air, it was drinking quite well. The 2012 is out drinking this right now by virtue of its development, but this is a much more substantial wine and will go on and on long after the 2012 is just a fond memory. 14% ABV (great/****/17/93)
September 9, 2023 - Medium plus nose of spices, wood and dried red fruit, well balanced. Good but I think I preferred it younger.
September 2, 2023 - Dinner at Windsor Arms. No detailed notes. Impressive bottle. Gravelly notes on the nose. Structured, quite full bodied. Dense and deep. Reminiscent of a Pauillac. Phelan Segur tends to be under rated and well priced.
February 4, 2023 - Delicious to brasato.
Decanted 30minutes.
Nice drak berries and black currant taste. Balanced tannins and acidity.
November 6, 2022 - Dark brick red. Fresh red fruit a bit of cedar wood and flower bed. Long and well integrated red fruit. Soft and silky notes of licorice, strawberries and plum marmalade. Likely to last many years but ready for drinking now.
October 22, 2022 - Too young. Nose with unripe black fruit, peat. Palate with black fruit, tart and some bitters. Finish is okay. Needs food, air or time to soften out.
