January 30, 2014 - Last of 5 bottles.
Allowed to breathe in bottle for 4+ hours.
Aromas of spice, leather, forest floor, mahogany, wild game, mint, and black tea. Medium bodied with cardamom, cherry, tea and leather notes. Some tannins remain on the concentrated, spicy finish. Gains in sweetness & intensity over time (91+ points).
The next day, nice cassis flavor on the palate, and the finish is a bit more seamless. The wine seems more complete & satisfying. Could be a 25-30 year wine.

December 16, 2012 - Great nose, body fills out a bit with decanter time. Delicious. Peaked at about 2-2.5 hours in decanter. Still life ahead on this one but it's hard to imagine it will get better.

December 27, 2011 - Surprisingly youthful in its color and on the very very expressive nose. The palate is showing a little age in that it is picking a little leather to accompany the abundant fruit. Strong cedar and plum on the nose.

August 10, 2011 - Sweet black cherry, currant, cedar nose with faint toffee and greenness too. Mature palate with fresh strawberry and oak, decent structure. Good.

March 21, 2011 - Tasted blind. Great spice, currant, plum, licorice, capsicum. Sweet tobacco adds some complexity to the dry berry. Very good but seems a but astringent, shrill, and thin. Overall one of the better wines tonight.

(Clos du Val Cabernet Sauvignon (Stag's Leap District)) Greater maturity here. A delightful nose - lean black fruits, with a mineral trace. There's some cigar box and smoke notes also, hinting at grape variety. Very stylish. On the body it is full but well structured, with elegant black fruits, ripe tannins and nicely balanced acidity. Some citrus peel character on the finish. Wonderful stuff.
