February 29, 2024 - Flower Day - Wine level to bottom of neck. Cork sound with very little ingress of wine. Decanted off a small amount of very fine sediment then decanted back into the cleaned bottle. Tasted in a Pinot Noir glass as I prefer them for developed Italian wines. Core is still opaque and garnet in colour and extends almost to the edge of the wine. There is a fairly thin slightly orange coloured rim. Nose is stunning! Red fruit, dried red fruit, spice, a little forest floor and some lightly lifted florals (violets?). I just nose this all night! On the palate there’s spice, red fruit, a hint of Brett (but just enough for complexity), licorice and some saltiness. The finish is florals with spice, red fruit (both ripe and dried) and a bit of funk. This bottle has held up well!

March 20, 2022 - Root Day - Decanted off a small amount of sediment. Very forest floor on the nose and palate. Acidity is sticking out on this bottle. Fruit is muted - this may have to be drunk up if next bottle shows similar characteristics. It’s certainly not dead but is showing pretty much only tertiary elements.

February 16, 2020 - Leaf day - medium garnet/orange core fading out to an orange edge and rim. Served in a Pinot Noir glass - my choice for mature Brunello. Damp earth, dried and fresh cherry, orange (if it makes sense) floral notes that are quite delicate and a lovely spice character. Very integrated nose and very appealing. Still cool from the cellar (decanted off a little sediment) but showing beautiful dried cherry, herbs and spice. Very long on the palate with everything in balance. This is a gorgeous wine! The finish is long with the dried fruit, orange notes and spice continuing. Tannins are resolved but there’s just enough there to give some solid structure. Really enjoying it this evening.

August 20, 2017 - Coravin two years ago and this was still in perfect condition. Much improved over two years. This wine was very good and is similar to other quality 2006's that I've had. No formal notes but really really good. Ruby with garnet starting to occur. Medium tannins and medium plus acidity. Nose of orange zest, ripe cherry, cedar, lots of herbs. Went perfectly with steak.

September 30, 2015 - Bouquet of cherry and dark fruits, slight vanilla smell, forest floor, loads of oak. I think this one needs more time. The vanilla and color are two indicators, as this is very dark and reminds me of a young wine. The tannins have mellowed out and softened in the glass over 4 hours. It's still a good wine but I'd let this sit a while. I'm sure my rating will change with time.

December 26, 2014 - Somewhat surprised by the comments and score here, 87.5 at the time of this note. This is a serious wine, with an elegant bouquet that put my mind to Nebbiolo, especially warm vintage La Morra Barolo or a $50 plus traditionally styled Barbaresco. Tremendous and balanced acids, light tannins, tastes like it smells. Rewarding finish, interesting experience. The most Piemonte-like BdM I recall tasting. A lovely drop!

July 14, 2013 - Swing and a miss. Crimson but with a very light body. Very transparent. The nose and the palate are dominated by the acidity. Sour cherries and mild herbs on the nose. Very light and understated for a Brunello -- more reminiscent of a poor chianti. 5+11+15+6=87
