Community Tasting Notes 5

March 27, 2014 - Dark purple. Expressive and complex nose of mocha, dark chocolate, liquorice, anise, blackberry, smoke and dark plum. Full-bodied with firm tannins, rich fruit, moderate acidity and a long aftertaste. Still very youthful but enjoyable in the same time. Long aftertaste. Very close in style to a modern right bank Bordeaux. Won't touch my other bottles for the next 5 years at least (if I can keep my hands away of them). This is remarkably more backward than both the 2005 and 2007.

February 9, 2014 - Dark black purple, lush, very hard not to like, but so much flavor with a fairly large dollop of cedary oak, that this almost seems like a cocktail. Not necessarily a dinner wine at this point, but so tasty.

3 days later, still with goblet filling aromas of crème de cacao, cedar, black raspberry with some drying tannins on the finish. While so tasty as a beverage, I don't know what to serve this with and almost worry how this is going to totally integrate. If your meal tonite consists only of a glass of wine, drink it, otherwise might hold off a while.

October 25, 2013 - Very good Napa cab but lacking the wow! factor of the vintages tasted previously (2005 and 2007). This is very dark ruby with intense dark chocolate, liquorice, mint, sweet spices, blackberry, plum and, unlike the aforementioned vintages, not much cedar. Full-bodied with high extract, firm, almost drying tannins and moderate acidity without lacking in balance. Alcohol is reasonable given the style (14.5%) and nicely integrated. Aftertaste is sweet and long. Obviously not at peak, will improve with 3-5 years of additional cellaring.

April 13, 2013 - When first opened, I began searching for what price I could resell this. Given a few hours, the complexity is impressive, with earthy and herbal red and black fruit opening to a rather tannic finish. Much more on the BDX spectrum than napa, this is a bottle that needs adequate time to integrate and allow the diverse components to even out. Even at $150+/bottle, this is a worthwhile investment.

April 26, 2012 - Drank over two nights and it didn't change much. Rich, pure fruit with chocolate and spice. Really nice and I'd say drink now with a little air or let it age for a few years. 93+
