Community Tasting Notes 1

June 22, 2013 - I didn't think that this would still be worth drinking, especially when I poured the first glass and noted its dull and cloudy appearance. I was pleasantly surprised: at 14 years of age, this Pinot Noir has become incredibly soft, while still showing great flavour and structure. I initially noted that this wine was "light", but actually it's quite plush and round: very soft, but not light.

The nose shows kirsch and cassis, enhanced by an assertive meaty note: think roast lamb, with hints of herbs like thyme, fennel, and lavender. The palate initially shows red cherry and blackberry, then red meat, lemon, pepper and fennel. A long, thin line of lemony acidity holds the palate together. Tannins are abundant, but pillow-soft. All of the flavours are beautifully smooth and balanced; even the cherry/berry top notes are soft and subtle.
