April 26, 2013 - The wine is a bright red to ruby color. The very appealing nose has cherries, raspberries, white pepper, dried herbs, baking spices, minerals, and just hints of smoke and licorice. This has medium body, fairly solid tannins, and very good acidity. The palate has pepper laced red fruit with dried herbs and a touch of toast oak adding depth. The finish has nice length with no rough edges. This is drinking very nicely but should last in the cellar for a few more years. This is not a typical all fruit California Grenache.

June 10, 2012 - 13.5% alcohol. This is, if possible, more open and expansive than it was six months ago. Just a juicy, bright-fruited delight. Aromatic nose of raspberry and spice, less mineral-driven than previously, perhaps. In the mouth, a bright burst of pure fruit, raspberry and dark berry, and a spicy, minerally mid-palate. Refreshing acidity and a focused, linear finish. Terrific. A-

April 22, 2012 - A touch lighter than medium ruby red color. Cherry, raspberry, minerals, smoke, dried herbs, black pepper, and a touch of licorice on the very nice nose. Medium body with fairly solid, ripe tannins and very nice acidity. Nice peppery cherry and raspberry fruit on the palate with the dried herbs coming in on the back end. Nice length on the finish that shows a touch of excess oak. Nice now, will be better with a bit of cellar time. A steal at $14.25.

December 9, 2011 - 13.5% alcohol. This was a surprise. Bright red color. Fragrant nose of raspberry, minerals, and spice notes. In the mouth, very elegant and refined, with a peppery raspberry fruit that is compelling and tasty. This might not be the most complex wine, but it sure delivers pure Grenache flavor -- and that's something almost no wines from California do. This avoids any notion of being too ripe. It's a terrific example of purity for Grenache, and for that alone it's notable. A-
