Community Tasting Notes 6

November 23, 2020 - Second time having this wine and similar impressions to before. Immediately called CdB as it was dense and blocky. Some earth and sous bois, rather ungainly wine.

    September 13, 2018 - 4/6, excellent cork.
Medium/deep garnet core, pale garnet rim. Rich nose, quite developed with earth and smoke and a touch of mushroom. Medium/full, plum and cherry, autumnal and soil notes. Rich with moderate acidity. Good length finish, touch of licorice, with the tannins just about in check. Decent effort for the vintage.

August 29, 2012 - Medium/deep ruby/garnet core, medium pale garnet rim. Nose shows sweet red fruits, vanilla and spice. This is medium/full bodied on the palate with a core of generous sweet red fruit, some vanilla and earth notes, soft tannins, medium acidity and a medium length, harmonious finish. Seems to have come together quite nicely.

October 7, 2009 - Medium/deep ruby core, medium pale garnet rim. Rich nose with ripe red fruit, mainly cherries, some creamy vanilla, some development with earthy hints and a slight meaty edge. Full bodied, more rich ripe fruit on initial entry with red cherry and a hint of plum, mouth-coating but ripe tannins but only moderate acidity on the good length finish. Slightly soupy and ungainly - lacking a little grace - but enjoyable nevertheless and may yet turn into a beautiful swan.

June 24, 2007 - Medium ruby core, slight purple tints, medium pale ruby rim. Youthful nose, fresh, ripe raspberries and red cherries, vanilla notes. On the palate this has plenty of dense, chewy but ripe tannin with red cherry and raspberry fruit to the fore, vanilla and then some roasted coffee notes coming through on the decent length finish. Certainly rich, but with sufficient acidity to give a sense of freshness and vigour. In fact among the better 2003's I have so far tasted, it will be interesting to see how this develops but given the impressive structure and depth of fruit it ought to have ageing potential. 86+?
