September 3, 2014 - Opened to breathe for 45 min or so. Very closed on the nose, some mineral, herbs and alcohol. On the palate, very lush and fruity, black cherry and plum, gripping tannins, and oak. Decent heft, medium body. Easy drinking, not super complex or nuanced. In a good place right now.

Looking back on my note from Dec it seems like I've had a better "out of the bottle" experience now than I did 9 months ago. Not sure if the wine has improved or my mood with the late summer weather but for whatever reason this is showing better now, right after opening, than the bottle from last Dec.

April 19, 2014 - The 2009 is not on par with previous vintages.

December 22, 2013 - Dark as ink. Blackberries on the nose and on the palate. Fruit, acid, faint tannins and a quick finish. I like it, but it is too young and simple. That being said, sometimes you are in the mood for a straightforward wine. Maybe it will open up over night in the wine fridge.

Like a different wine on day 2 - this wine really needs to be decanted and left alone for a couple of hours to reach its full potential. The ripe blackberry is much more intense, and the wine has evolved into medium body (yesterday it was light and almost thin). The fruit is balanced by a woodsy backdrop with a slight note of acid - fruity but dry. I revised my previous score from yesterday up by one point. Pairing nicely tonight with home made portobello mushroom soup.
