December 27, 2023 - Served next to 98 Giacosa Santo Stefano and 99 Monprivato, this wine just edged out the other two. Truly showing great with beautiful dried cherry, minerals, spice, licorice and a hint of tar. Altogether a seamless wine that sparkles in the mouth.

February 27, 2018 - Here I found a gorgeous, dark and brooding bouquet with animal musk up front, giving way to mineral-infused crushed black cherry, licorice, dried orange, stone dust and dusty roses. On the palate, I found silky textures with saline-mineral thrust, before giving way to tart black cherry, inner rosey florals and youthful fine tannin. The finish was long with lasting fine tannins and mineral-soaked red berry fruit.

May 16, 2017 - Scuro, introverso, concentrato, terroso.

April 25, 2014 - Eric's notes below tell the story. Restrained nose at first but with more air time it is opening up. Beautiful Nebbiolo color. Long fresh finish.
When cork was pulled my initial reaction was that I expected more saturation based 19 years in the bottle. I feel the cork condition is a good indication
that the given drinking window to 2033 is accurate. This is elegant and rewarding now but should continue to improve gaining even more subtle complexity.

April 12, 2011 - 1995: Barolo Retrospective (i Trulli, NYC): On the nose, I found plum with fresh turned soil, floral notes, cherry and savory herbs. On the palate, notes of menthol filled the senses and gave way to red fruits and cedar. It was structured, showing enough balance of tannin and fruit to expect a number of years before it hits its peak. The long finish gave way to sour red fruits and hints of fennel.

March 29, 2010 - un Monfortino con toni lievemente più scuri e dai tannini ancora più graffianti….difficile scegliere

January 2, 2010 - This bottle was a good start to our all-Italian wine dinner at Osteria del Teatro. Big and burly, "masculine," uncompromisingly traditional. Some cherry could be coaxed from the nose and felt in the mouth. The tannins were coarse but not overpowering, probably due to bottle age and the relatively modest vintage. This wine is about muscle, not complexity and it resembles no wine from France, California or Spain.

December 8, 2009 - This Barolo was showing very well at age 14. Nicely fragrant with notes of cherry and strawberry and very approachable on the palate. The tannins were subdued but the balance was excellent and I would judge it just about ready now. There's a hint of fig flavor as well. Smooth in Barolo terms and easy to underdstand and easy to like. The intensity is not there for "great" but the complexity more than compensates.
