March 16, 2014 - Consistent with previous notes on previous vintages. If anything, this is even richer with more chocolate and sweet dark fruit. Lacks polish or complexity, but this basic Malbec from Kaiken is consistently one of the top sub-$15 Malbecs from year to year. Good at 4 years' age but won't last. 14.5%, $12.

December 6, 2013 - Opaque black cherry color. Rich, brooding nose with aromas of sweet plums, some dark-toned oak and a little leather with a noticeable hint of alcohol. Juicy, sweet and full-bodied on the palate with flavors of blackcurrant jam, overripe plums, sweet oak spice, vanilla and some milk chocolate. There's a lot of flavors here with quite much complexity, but I really can't say I'm fond of the overall taste - it's just too sweet, ripe and oaky. Furthermore, alcohol shows pretty much. The acidity feels medium or even rather low, but instead the tannins are moderately firm and grippy. The finish is quite long and sweet with plummy, almost pruney flavors, ripe and almost jammy blackberries, some peppery spice, a little milk chocolate and a hint of coarse spiciness.

This is a wine that is more or less what you would expect from something at this price point (10€). It has nice, chewy texture, but overall this wine is just too soft, sweet and flabby with too heavy oak influence. Not really my cup of tea.
