March 10, 2022 - Lunch at Nicolas / Drinks at Joyce's (Nicolas Restaurant, Teck Lim Street, Singapore): A bit of a strange bottle - this was solid enough, but really quite tight and far less enjoyable compared to previous bottles. The nose was very nice as always - sweet red cherries wed to fragrant floral notes; earth and toast and some savoury meatiness, and then a curl of Chinese herbs at the sides. The palate felt really much tighter than the previous bottles though, with the cherry fruit having receded somewhat, and the wine's structure of bright acidity and fine tannins standing out more, especially towards the more peppery, slightly mineral finish, which faded rather alarmingly quickly. Good but not brilliant today.

February 6, 2022 - Color, dark ruby. Nose is MSG, sweet spices, ripe berries - clear oak influence. Palate is also sweet, ripe berries, smoke, toast. Can feel the tannins. Good wine but a bit extracted. Needs another 5-10 years to soften.

October 2, 2021 - Dinner at Basque Kitchen by Aitor (Basque Kitchen, Waterboat House, Singapore): Lovely. Still a little youthful, but already very enjoyable, especially after a couple of hours in the decanter. I really liked the nose on it - a little more oak than I would normally enjoy, but this was integrated very nicely with the rest of the bouquet, fanning out of the glass in wafts of smoke and sweet spice, smoked meats, almost a touch of Jamon Iberico, and then a core of deep dark cherries and red berries, all chased with a nice tail of minerality. What a lovely kaleidoscope of smells. The palate was very yummy too. Fresh, juicy, but with all the fruit and depth of a good 2010 - this opened in the mouth with lovely flavours of dark cherries, red plums and berries, lined with a nice touch of spice, and then a lovely ring of stony minerality drawing away into a long finish. A charming wine, with a lot of elegant strength and a nice transperancy to it. This was example of how good the 2010 vintage was, with great acidity, fruit and structure all starting to come together. Delicious now, especially with some food, but this will really need 6-8 years, maybe more, to truly show at peak.

September 22, 2021 - Dinner with Sean (Nicolas Restaurant, Teck Lim Street, Singapore): Again impressive, but this needs some time still. It did have a lovely nose, especially with a little bit of time in the decanter, showing entracing aromas of spice and herb, earth and meat, along with sweet blushes of red cherries and darker berries, all shaded by just a hint of wood spice. Lovely stuff. The palate was fresh, lively and very juicy, with dark cherries and berries, spice and earth, all unfolding in a full, generous mouthful. This had showed the best qualities of the 2010 vintage - bright acid; full powerful fruit; lots of transprent purity - yet it still felt way too young, with the structural elements standing out a buit, and the wine threteaning to close up at times, especially towards the finish, which started out super long and nicely spiced, but later clenched up quite a bit. Still though, a great little expression of the terroir, which will get better in 5-10 years.

October 9, 2012 - Borgogna: naso profondo, un sasso di cartapesta. anima terrestre di grande classe, leggerezza e finezza.
