January 3, 2016 - This wine is a powerhouse, but with balance. Deep dark ruby with purple hues. The nose is pronounced, with blackberry, black currant and a little bit of new oak induced chocolate, espresso and sweet baking spice. The palate is dry, but with some RS despite the 14.8% alcohol. The acidity and tannins are medium and the alcohol does not seem as high as the abv number would indicate. The mouthfeel is rich and creamy, with a long finish. It paired very well with some good, peppery Texas Hill Country BBQ. It is drinking well now but could easily go a couple of more years. Definitely worth looking for, this really reminds me of the Rosenblums of old.

September 22, 2015 - Very dark. Seashore, pips, rainstorm, black fruit nose. Very intense black fruit, licorice and saline finish. Not long, clean. Overall this wine is shocking to the senses and not for me.

March 17, 2015 - Very dark red/purple. Saline, mineral and dark plum nose. Salinity is very apparent in the mouth, along with bitter licorice and dark berries. Concentrated, viscous with mineral finish. A little rubber boot, too. Interesting but not for everybody!

February 21, 2015 - Some of JC wines are too much, too hot & too extracted. This one has a restraint to it that adds another dimension. The minerality of the wine makes it so much better than your typical overripe Zin. A hint of oak when opened that quickly dissipated to a very balanced wine. Bravo Jeff. Keep doing it this way. B

December 27, 2014 - The wine looks purple colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like black pepper and bell pepper. It tastes like blackberry, black currant (cassis), light toast, lead pencil, black pepper and petrol. The body is medium/full. The wine has coarse texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

December 5, 2013 - Nearly opaque purple color with lifted lavender, leather, dark fruits, white pepper, and a bit of garrigue aromas. On the palate, it approaches full bodied, and is fresh with a plush mouthfeel and layers of black raspberry, black cherry, blueberry, red currant and spice flavors. Medium-plush finish. Cohn refers to the Iron Hill Vineyard as the Cote-Rotie of Zinfandel. SRP$35 225 cases
